took my renegade hunting for the first time today, had a great afternoon hunt. set in a ladder stand on the edge of a clearing where they logged off our hunting club last year, had a 4 point come out of the swampline about 100 yards from me somewhere around 6:30. he stayed behind some bushes for about 15 mins, browsing his way towards a clear spot. i kept getting glimpses of him, and he finally stopped about 60 or 70 yards from me. pulled the trigger and he dropped right there. I was using a 180 gr xtp bullet in a sabot, with 80 grns of pyrodex rs. the bullet hit the top of the right shoulder, and went into the backbone. i looked for a min to see if i could recover the bullet but couldnt find it. thats kind of strange because a few years ago i used the same bullet in a different rifle and did a complete pass thru on a 130 lb pig. I guess they just dont like the heavy bones.

Congratulations on the deer. That is a good shot. I have never tried that bullet in my Renegade. Now I have something else to try... thanks.
When my sister lived in Statesboro (several years ago), her husband used to hunt deer and if memory serves me, he could shoot like five deer a year there. Is it still like that? Although the deer he shot were smaller then our Wisconsin deer, five of them adds up to a lot of venison.

now we can take 10 deer, 1 buck no restrictions, 1 buck 4 points or better on one side, and 8 does. or you can use buck tags for does. we have a lot of deer down here, but like you say, not much size to them. this one was 120 lbs and thats a good deer down here. yesterday morning there was a 7 point killed that wieghed 142 lbs and that was a great deer.

It's double our limit of three does and three bucks.
