Default Worth a try....or not?

Bullet shopping today and they didn't have my Hornady xtp 44cal 300gr in stock. I grabbed the 45 cal 230gr xtp instead. Now that I look at them they look much shorter than I have been shooting.

Looking for opinions on whether they will group well and get the job done on whitetails or are they too short/light? Setup is a TC Blackdiamond, crush rib sabots, t7 lose powder and #22 mag caps. Increased velocity/range or unstable bullet? Worth giving them a go at the range or look elsewhere?

I've never tried them, but suspect they would work OK. I killed two does with 200 grain .40 caliber XTP's last season. Full penetration and good expansion in both cases.

Never mind. I went back and got the 45cal 300gr XTP instead. I just hope that they fly as well as the 44cal 300gr did last year.

Are you sure there 230gr and not 240gr??? I shoot the 240gr XTP Mag's and they are awsome. The Most Accurate, Most Devestating Bullet I ever shot, been using them for years! Or are they a (non Mag) that's why there 230gr??

Either one will do the job.

Sorry, see ya changed your mind. Now Im not gonna try and tell you to use a lighter XTP, but why do you need 300gr's? I get complete penetration even out to 175yds, but what I like the most is they fly flatter than the 300gr's. And I have never lost a Deer hit with the 240gr XTP Mags, they do the Job I Guarantee it. What I like about them and I use 110gr's of Pyro RS, is I can sight in at 2" High at 50 and still be center Lungs at 125, and out to 175 Im in or above the Heart still. Perfect!
