Default Short hot Savage session

Since the savage arrived yesterday I decided to sight it in . I found out I needed a long extension to get the breechplug out. I picked one up today then went out this evening. The temps were still in the 90"s so I didn't take a lot of stuff to work up loads. I decided to just to see if I could get it on paper. I mounted a Nikon Omega on burris bases and medium rings,
I loaded some tubes with 100 gr blackhorn and 120 gr blackhorn. I took barnes 290 TMZ and 250 T-Eze since I wasn't sure how tight a bore it had.
I tried a 100 gr and the barnes TMZ. It loaded a little hard but not bad. I ended up only taking 4 shots and decided to wait til a cooler day but do believe the rifle has real potential
shot #1 was at 13 yards . It was on paper at leastso I moved to 50 yards and took shot #2 after 8 clicks up.it was low of course so I went up 24 clicks and took shot #3 . It wasn't to bad so I took shot #4. It didn't feel like a good shot but I decided to leave it at that for now because the barrel was really hot. I didn't try any loads, just used the 100 gr Blackhorn and the Barnes 290 TMZ and made 2 scope adjustments. Overall I'm pleased.
All shots were taken with gun mounted bipod.

Nice-looking rifle! Is that the Savage smokeless, or the BP version?

It's the 10MLII you can shoot smokeless or blackpowder. I am only using blackpowder, actually Blackhorn for right now. I might shoot triple 777 also. I doubt if I will ever try smokeless.

Seems you have a new rifle arrive every day or so. My last time out was kinda cut short by the heat, but the barrel never got too hot i couldn't grab and grip it. I too have been shooting BH209, but not them expensive bullets.

Have you been cutting wheat? Sure is a good price right now. Hope hail doesn't find you!

Thankfully no hail, but a micro burst took out about a third of the sweet corn and downed some trees. I had to cut them off the fence and dog runs and fix that. I went out to do a second cutting of alfalfa and the hoppers have pretty much destroyed it as well as the Indian corn I planted in the waterway. I might have to sell some livestock or buy some hay. Thankfully the market garden harvest is going good although I will probably have to have a earlier season end than I normally do. I figure I will plant additional garlic in October so as to try and make up some of the losses. I still haven't went and looked for a place to hunt for Pronghorn with my archery tag. Only 12 days away. I better get ready. I need to get to Rapid soon and stop by Cabelas for a new arrow rest. Hope you have a great hunting season. Maybe some trip we can get together for coffee

Chet, i presume you know this is rally week. Folk in the know claim there are half a million people here, in and around Sturgis. Sometimes getting into traffic is near impossible; the bikes are like a string with no end. It is a noisy, busy, bustling time around here.

Just curious why your not shooting smokeless in the Savage. I shoot IMR4759 in mine. $18.00 a pound and I get 160 shots out of a pound. Quite a bit cheaper than BH-209
