CVA Firebolt UltraMag 209 Photos
I recently took these photos of a discontinued
.45 caliber CVA Firebolt UltraMag 209 rifle that
was on clearance. It has a 26 inch barrel with
a 1 in 28" twist. The stock was solid and
comfortable and even has a cheek piece. It
shouldered like a fine Remington or Winchester
bolt action rifle and even the trigger let off
was really crisp. This leftover model is probably
a few years old and CVA listed a #11 breech
plug as being available for it too.
Whatever the price, sometimes a nice stock makes
a big difference for a rifle to really stand out.
Has anyone ever shot one of these Firebolts
or another similar .45 with a 1 in 28" twist?

cva has the 209 breech plugs.i would just call them up. like 12$. they look like an optima plug but there a little different with the wire spring. its a sweet looking gun. what did you spend on it for a clearance item. sights are cheapie plastic so be careful bumping it. weaver 418m scope bases will work if you do the scope thing. the gorilla bases will work too.

The stock looks like my old WinApex and was very solid. The sites look the same too and were cheap plastic. Winchester offered the same gun but rebadged to X150. Mine was stainless but the stock sold the gun because it felt well made.
Besides that go get some MMP 45x40 tan sabots, Hornady tans are the same thing. You might want a box of Harvester CrushRibs too. Then go buy some 40cal 180gr GoldDot and/or 200gr XTP bullets and have some fun.
In 45s i usually start with 80gr and seldom go past 110gr of loose powder. Im betting 90gr will shoot good with most 180-200gr 40cal bullets. Watch the bargin cave for deals on Powerbelts, you may like the 300gr if they have them again.
Glad to see another 45 owner.

I have a .45 Hunterbolt that looks very similar to your rifle. Couple of cosmetic differences, but it is almost the same. I've had mine for 4 years and like it a lot. I do experience some blowback with it- that is my major complaint. If you use a scope, I would highly recommend getting a sock for it to protect it.
It is very accurate, however. It did take me awhile to find what it likes. Mine prefers 777 FFFG over FFG and shoots 1.5 MOA or better with 200 SST/Shockwaves, 200 XTP's, 225 grain Powerbelts and 195 grain Dead Centers, when using the appropriate powder charge for each. Not bad for a $110 rifle IMO....

A friend of mine ordered this last one on clearance for
$80 plus shipping and I was impressed by the solid stock.
The gun comes with the 209 breech plug but being able
to switch to #11's might be an advantage in .45 caliber.
Traditions .45's usually have a 1 in 20" twist while this
one has a 1 in 28", but it doesn't seem that will hurt this
gun's performance any if using the right bullets. And it
has a long range barrel.
I thought that this model might have initially cost twice
as much!
Thanks for all of the replies.
