Default HELP: Savage smokeless?

Guys,

I' m thinking about getting a muzzleloader. I' m considering a Savage with the new smoleless powder in .45 caliber. Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks in advance

The only disadvantage is some states may not allow them. Good luck.

Ok- first the Savage Smokeless ML gets a lot negative comments, and I guess I' m one of those that don' t like the idea of this gun. With the exception of the Savage gun muzzleloaders should NEVER be loaded with smokeless powder, their barrels just can' t take the higher pressures generated by smokeless powders. So if you get this gun, and you shoot smokeless powder in it, make sure that you and everyone around you understand that only the Savage ML can handle smokeless powder.

That said, the Savage gun is supposed to be a great shooter (from what I' ve read on other posts, not personal experience). If you plan on hunting with smokeless powder, make sure to double check your hunting regulations, because most ML hunts require the use of Black Powder or a equivalent substitute (T7, Pyrodex), and prohibit smokeless powders.

Other than the concern I have that someone might think smokeless powders are OK in all MLs - The Savage ML should be a great gun.

Herman -
Savage only offers the .50 as of now. Hopefully, they will put out a .45 soon.

BHW and Herman,

At this time Savage is not offering a .45 cal in the 10ML-II. BUT, that is about to change, as they are going to offer a .45 cal, in the not so distant future. Hoperfully it will be out this fall or winter, but they may hold off to make the anouncement at the 2004 Shot Show, but personally I hope they don' t wait that long.

I have a Savage in 50 cal. and love it. With the load they recomend it shoots .75" @ 100 yds. and only have to sight in 3 high to be on @ 200. Real nice gun.
