Default Broken petals on sabot

I tried some new bullets out of the omega today still waiting on scope for new Traditions. I tried some T/C Mag express with the xtp bullets in 240 gr. Due to snow sabots were easy to find laying on the snow. It sems all petals broke off and were laying approx 10-15 ft from muzzle . It was cold today about 10-15 degrees, bullet/sabot combo were not overly hard to load yet didn't slide right down either. I would say a nice fit just snug enough. I grouped 5 shots at about 2 inch group @ 100 yds w/out my nice shooting bench setup I just used shooting sticks So accuracy is A ok probably 1 ' or so w/ a good rest. Why would the petals be off sabots? cheap sabots w/ bullets, Cold weather any other ideas Also are these t/c bullets basically the hornaday xtp 's cause they look identical.

The Bullets are the same as the Hornady XTP's as they are made by Hornady, but hte design is slightly different. I shoot the 240gr XTP Mag TC's also out of My ACCURA. I love them, I get 1"groups at 100 and 2" at 200yds. As for the petals, I also found some with 1-2 and even 3 broke off, but they shoot super good so Im not overly worried. I know your TC has a tighter bore so this may be the reason. If it's grouping good I would'nt worry about it. Yes being so cold and the tight bore could have also caused this.
I found the TC 240gr XTP Mag Express Sabots to be the most devestating Bullet I have ever used on Whitetails, I have been using this bullet for over 10 years and love them.

Petals breaking from the sabot is normally not a problem at all. By the time the petals are breaking, the sabot has long cleared the bullet. This is pretty normal especially with the thinner sabots.... The sabots are designed to come off the bullet as soon as possible and at the velocity they are traveling the drag created by the opening petal is considerable force the lays the petal most of the way back causing them to break off.

Hornady is under contract and supplies most of the bullets that are packaged under the TC name, so when they look the same they are... MMP is under contract to supply TC with with their 'Mag Express' sabots.

+1, the bullet is "long" gone by the time the petals open far enough to shear....not important. Some sabots are designed top operate that way even.
