Default sabot shrinkage

i purchased a box of hornady .45 sabots with 38-180g xtp's.these were old stock at a local gun shop.i want to try them in the .45 super-disc.the bullets don't seem to fit to well, when you push the bullet to the bottom of the sabot the petals flare out quite a bit.do you folks think this is normal or could the sabots have shrunk due to out-gassing.thoughts?......karl

Some sabots are made this way, for example the MMP blue 50/40; this does not affect the capability, though it may be a bit more difficult to be sure the bullet is seated right, or seem to. This type of sabot has given me excellent performance since I quit worrying about it and just seated them down solid and shot them.
