My Savage really likes the 300 grain Barnes Expander MZ, using the supplied MMP sabot, over 43.5 grains (weighed) of Accurate Arms 5744 powder. Reliable, light recoiling, and accurate. I've never chronied this load, but according to the book it should be running around 2000 fps. Shot a 3" group with this load at 175 yards, and it's very deadly on deer.

43 grains of IMR 4759 with a Barnes Original .458 inside a Harvester Black Crushed Rib Sabot. I used AA-5744 for the first two years, the 4759 is a much cleaner burning powder.
Caution: The powders discussed in this thread are only for the Savage 10ML11 which uses smokeless powder.

fusion,
Do you know what velocity you're getting with that load? IMR-4759 is a little quicker burning than AA-5744. I haven't really had any problems with the 5744 being too dirty. I can shoot all day without swabbing and still see bare stainless steel in the bore. I like 5744 because it's got 20% nitroglycerine, making it really easy to light off in cold weather, and gives really consistent results. I wouldn't mind trying something different, but I still have so much 5744 left I don't know what I'd do with it. The great thing about the Savage is that it takes a long time (for me) to use up a pound of powder. Cheap... just the way I like it!

Driftrider- I do not have a chono but the load I'm shooting should be at around 2100fps. If you have a bunch of 5744 I would use it up as it is a good powder for the Savage as well.
Bowhunternut- get rid of the green Harvester Sabot and shoot that XTP in a MMP short black sabot with the 44grns of AA-5744 and I bet you will get some fine groups with this set up.
