That would be a good buck in my neck of the woods SW. Congratulations. Good shoot too! Did you get a weight on him? I'm guessing 155 lbs.

That was my guess too when I had to lift him onto the cargo hauler. I didn't weigh him though.

Congrats. Looks like some good eating. You could always weigh him one plate at a time.

Congratulations! That s a nice deer. You can take pride in the fact that you took it with a muzzeloader.

I definitely do. A lot of people I talk to wonder why I hunt with a muzzleloader when I can hunt with a centerfire. I try to explain it to them but they just don't fully understand why. I prefer to hunt with my Endeavor whenever I can. But I do pull out the .30-06 when I need to. Like today.

From what hunting I did in SC, I concluded there were at least three different subspecies of whitetail there. I don't know if that was correct, but it's what I thought I saw. Maybe the intermediate sized ones were a mix. I'm sure there were Florida deer and Virginia deer though.

edit: maybe I was wrong about the correct subspecies of what I thought were Florida deer. Apparently there are 5 subspecies in SC. http://www.whitetailsunlimited.com/i...stribution.pdf

But there is some little dude that runs around in the lowlands of the state that I think that article omits - or at least doesn't clarify its distribution. Faster than greased lightning too!
