From what hunting I did in SC, I concluded there were at least three different subspecies of whitetail there. I don't know if that was correct, but it's what I thought I saw. Maybe the intermediate sized ones were a mix. I'm sure there were Florida deer and Virginia deer though.
edit: maybe I was wrong about the correct subspecies of what I thought were Florida deer. Apparently there are 5 subspecies in SC.

But there is some little dude that runs around in the lowlands of the state that I think that article omits - or at least doesn't clarify its distribution. Faster than greased lightning too!
