Are the optima's at Walmart any good at all? They are $277 I think, but don't have the fluted barrel. It just says optima magnum on it.

If I can keep the price down on a muzzleloader then I might be able to get an inexpensive 12 ga.

Thanks for all your replys so far. They have been very helpful.

Thanks,
Dave

The Optima is a good gun. It would be like a slightly upgraded Wolf with a longer barrel. They have a very good reputation for accuracy. I don't own one, but I've heard pretty much only positive reports about them. The Accura would be an upgrade on the Optima, with a better barrel. But the Optima is a good rifle too.

Oh, I'd recommend getting a .50 cal instead of a .45. I have a .45 and love it, but if you are new to muzzleloading, the .50 is more versatile and much, much easier to find bullets/sabots for.

Check out the Accura post on this site. Also I have the Optima Elite which is a great switch barrel rifle if interested. I have the muzzleloading barrel, a .270 cartridge barrel and the 12Ga turkey barrel. The Elite has the same Bergara barrel as the Accura which is a great barrel.

I would get the CVA Accura. If you can live without the thumbhole stock I would consider this one for $200 shipped.

jeepnut - I have a like NIB Remington Genesis I will sell you for $100.00 to your door. Shoots great. The only thing is I removed the rear sight to install a scope and now I can't find it. But I will sell it with the bases and rings.
Let me know if you're interested. I will be away starting tomorrow morning. Heading to FL for my daughter's wedding.

In Indiana, you can also hunt deer with certain rifles. The gun must be chambered for a cartridge whose case is not longer than 1.625". Cases do not have to be straight-walled. In fact several guys are making 35 cal wildcats based on cases like the 270 WSSM. As far as over the counter goes, you can use any rifle chambered for typical pistol rounds such as 357 Mag, 44 Mag and quite a few others, even 500 S&W I think.

A good shooting 44 mag with handloads or leverevolution ammo would get you 175 yds. Something to think about. But if you want a ML, that's a good way to go too. No need to change guns when ML season rolls around.
