Default Knight Wolverine stainless

I have a Knight Wolverine with a stainless 22 inch barrel. There is a Traditions 1x32mm scope on it with quick release rings by Traditions. I was having trigger problems, so I downloaded Knights manual and attempted to fix my problem. Well I am happy to say the fix was good. Who ever owned this rifle abused it. I purchased it cheap, and I could tell they played gun smith with it, as a lot of things were wrong with it. But I got it back to almost normal.

One thing that happened today has never happened before. The rifle has a #11 cap technology, which is fine by me. I never saw the need for them 209 primers all that much. The load was 85 grains of Triple Seven 2f, and a 250 grain .452 XTP in a MMP HPH-24 sabot.

I had shot and something did not sound right. So when I c oc ked the rifle to look at the nipple area I got a heck of a surprise.

The nipple split off even to the face of the breech plug. I have never had that happen before. The hammer of course held the nipple in place and no harm no foul as they say, but this really was strange. Good thing I had other breech plugs and nipples so I changed over to a new set up and kept on shooting.

I was only shooting at 50 yards since it is a 1x scope. But overall I wanted to see how the 250 grain XTP did in this rifle.

I was swabbing with spit every other shot. And to end the day I left the rifle fouled and for a third shot took a poke at the little green square to the side of the bull.

I am guessing this is a 50 yards tree stand rifle for sure in my woods. That 85 grains of Triple Seven 2f and that 250 grain XTP has a pretty good bark to it. Should be all that is needed.

Cayugad
I had several brought in like that back when I had the shop. An easy out usually takes them right out. Lee

Nice shooting.
I am trying to figure out what made the nipple do that. You would think the pressure would re**** the hammer before it would sheer off the nipple. Some sort of metal fatigue would be my guess.
The bore must be pretty good in that abused gun for that kind of shooting.

The bore was terrible when I got it. I kept treating it with Montana X-treme Cowboy Solvent and then Bore Conditioner. When I checked it today, there are just a few pits in it now, and the rest is nice and shiny. Yes this little Wolverine can shoot. I might give it to my nephew. He's coming to visit in a few days and has no inline rifle. This would make a good one for him.

Lee I will try that. I ordered two more breech plugs and some hotshot nipples to day, but always nice to have spares around.

As a rule they are just work hardened and brittle. I never had any problem getting them out id you have it try a 1/8 inch easy out and the recommended drill. Lee

Cayugad, Those 250grn XTP'S do a great job on Whitetails. The Knight Visions are still on sale. Hell, blame it on Mike. LOL

BTW- Great shooting.

Nice Dave. I guess even nipples fail sometimes. Where do you order your breech plugs? I may get an extra one for my Knight. My breech plug is about 1 1/2" long and the rear where the nipple goes has two slots on the outer lip for the extraction tool.
I believe mine is a model 93 but there are no markings on it.

Another rifle Grouse? Your as bad as Sabotloader.

I have to run to town Lee and I will get a 1/8th easy out tool and see if I can fix that. BUT Cheaper then Dirt is having a HECK of a sale on Knight breech plugs. So I figured this was a good time to stock up.

Dave
Can you do me a favor and measure that breech plug OAL from face to top of nipple. Mine is the old slotted head breech plug but this hex head would probably be easier to get out if it got too fouled up.
