RE: What bullet did you use last year and......

Took 1 doe with a 275gr Parker BE at about 70yds. Bad shot. Hit her low in the chest in front of the heart and mangled the off side leg.Had my doubts when I saw her standing and could see that off side leg swinging back and forth. Tried to reload but she hobbled off with another spooked doe.

I circled out and left her for the night. At first light I followed a good blood trail for about 80 yds and found her. No vitals hit. Heart & lungs were in good shape but I must of hit something and got lucky. Or the leg damage from that bullet was so severe...

Not the bullets fault. Maybe the bullets performance was the reason I found her!

ORIGINAL: benamen

Used a 250 grain SST with 79 grains of Blackhorn to take a doe last fall. 60 yard shot to the neck and she dropped. Needed a followup shot at point blank range, again to the neck, neither bullet exited.
That's kind of a low powder charge for that bullet. What kind of rifle? Or was it weighed.

Sorry should have more clear but the amount stated is by weight. The only loads that I use by volume are in handguns.

I didn't load my Knight this past year, or the year before that come to think of it...

I killed 2 does with a cast .530 ball over 80grs of FFF Goex...Both hit low in the lungs, both exited...
One piled up about 45 yards away, the other made it 60 or so...

Took a small 6 point at 20 yds from a tree stand. Used a 260 Speer Jacketed Hollow Point over 90 grs of T7 in my T/C Omega. Hit was mid lung on entry and exit just under opposite front leg.

Deer ran 50 yds with slight blood trail. Exit hole in rib cagewas 1 1/2".Previous 5 deer shot with this bullet (all under 30 yds) were DRT. This was the first one that ran on me.

In my Lyman GPH I used Hornady 425 gr GPB -took 3 deer with them. none went more than 20 -40 yards.
In my Triumph I took a couple of deer with the 250gr Shockwave. None went over 20 yards. Didn't have to do any tracking out of the 7 deer last year.
The one below was at 234 yards 250gr shockwave and 100 gr triple 7. He only went 20 yards.

I shoot a 245 grain Powerbelt Aero over 100 grains Pyrodex RS (my Fort Knox load...Fort Knox regulates powder charges to 100 grains or less)...I have also had great performance from the 250 grain T/C Shockwave over 100 grains Pyrodex...tremendous upset and damage...fantastic, short blood trail...just hard to load in my CVA Wolf.

My father has shot 6 deer (10 point, two 8 points, does) and a 205 pound boar with a T/C Grayhawk sidelock loaded with 295 grain Powerbelt Aeros over 120 grains Pyrodex RS. None of the animals went more than 35 yards. He swears by this load. The damage paths have been tremendous.

Took a doe about 60 yds 100 gr bh209 with a 300 gr gold dot, bang flop. Took a buck about a week later about 70 yds same charge and bullet ,same results , bang flop. Both were taken with my Omega.
