RE: What bullet did you use last year and......
Used a 250 grain SST with 79 grains of Blackhorn to take a doe last fall. 60 yard shot to the neck and she dropped. Needed a followup shot at point blank range, again to the neck, neither bullet exited.

RE: What bullet did you use last year and......
We were quite fortunate last season, and had good hunting. Mostly, the deer we killed were at 80 to 120 yards. Five of the deer we killed were with 300g sst. One of them was lung shot in an area with very very little snow, and it was a job to find. Very little blood, and it went both, down hill, and up hill. After that experience, i quit the sst, and went back to my old favorite, the 300g nosler partition. I killed two deer with the nosler, and the tissue damage done by that bullet was very obviously more than what was done by the sst. If i ever get a chance for elk, i will use the partition. This next season we are going to try the gold dot and the xtp on deer, and we expect better results than we had with the sst. Depending on how many tags we can get this year, i may give the Barnes TEZ a try. The blizzards and lion could lead to a reduction in tags available for this coming season.

Same O' - Same O' here... Picked up a nice little buck near the end of regular rifle season with the Omeag and the normal .452/260 grain Nosler Partition in an HPH-24 pushed along by 110 grains of T7-2f. Where you see him laying is where he was shot... ![]() Had a second X-tra Does tag and while my hunting partner was hunting Elk during or ML season I was acting a heard dog but yet looking for possible a nice doe... carried a 30-30 during that week. Did see several does but never pulled the trigger - I did, however, shouldered on several doe and shot them by saying 'Bang! - but none of them fell and I did not want to track em... Actaully what the problem was I could not find anyone in the family that wanted the meat. Late season cow Elk season, I switched rifles to a the Knight DISC Extreme. For Elk I use a Nosler .458/300 grain Partiton Protected Point, a MMP Orange .457-.458/50 cal sabot on top of a 120 grains of T7-2f. It was a fairly warm and dry late season - starting in December... didn't really get after it until the end of the second week of the season, when it started snowing. Then it really never stopped snowing - by the time I could back out there - right after Christmas - the snow was up to my knees. That trip I spooted a group of 5 cows coming across the bottom 'deer draw' - I knew they would walk over the smal ridge and come half way up 'Larch Snag Draw' so I head over the top and down into the the draw to get setup for the ambush near the 'Larch Snag' Waited quiite a bit of time and they never showed up... Circled down below to see if I could cut their tracks... They didn't come out below either. walked around underneath where I had first spotted them found their tracks and then followed them up the ridge right between the two draws - right across my tracks and where I was sitting when I first spotted them. If I had just stayed where I was I might have a whole different ending to this story. Moral 'outsmarted by a bunch of cows' Then the next trip out to the same arear the snow was above the knees... abd still snowing.... - I hate to say - i was snowed out... I hate getting old... |

Used the Hornady .40 XTPs in a .45 on a Javelina and a cull-buck.
Boom-Flops both. Good expansion, deadly. Longest shot was abt 65 yds for the buck. BP |
RE: What bullet did you use last year and......
I took 3 a nice 8 a button and a doe. the big doe was down a logging road and a little way into a corn field broadside and standing in a WMA I drew a permit for last year, the Shock Wave 250 gr went in behind the shoulder right over the top of the heart and came out the other side in close to the same spot the load was 120gr of BH, she jumped up and came down on her face, both bucks were taken at between 25 and 30 yards with 250 gr Gold Dots both hit about the same place as the doe only the small one was on a bit of an angle and it came out of his shoulder. The load for the Gold Dots was 110gr BH and the gun for all was the Triumph. RE: What bullet did you use last year and......
I used the older sharp tipped Hornady .40 cal 200 gr SST, Harvester light blue sabot, 110 gr BH209, Win 209 primer in a .45 cal Knight Wolverine 209.
#1 6pt buck - 200 yards. The buck had been shot at by another hunter and was limping around. I had a solid rest and knew the deer was injured. The only shot I had was high in the shoulder and the deer dropped at the shot. It paralyzed the deer and required a finishing close up shot. #2 doe - 80 yards. Broadside through both lungs. Went about 40 yards and dropped. #3 doe - 130 yards. Broadside through both lungs. Went about 60 yards and dropped. #4 doe - 90 yards. Broadside through both lungs. Went about 50 yards and dropped. |
RE: What bullet did you use last year and......
Barnes 300gr Expander MZ took all my deer the last two years. I recovered this from the spike I shot the 08 first season. He probably didn't make it 15 yards. All the otheres were DRT in the neck.

RE: What bullet did you use last year and......
200 grain .40 cal XTP, 1 buck that had dropped it's antlers early at about 90 - 95 yards. Bullet hit the liver, pulverized it & exited ribcage but remain lodged under skin. Perfect mushroom. Deer ran about 70 yards after the shot with a good blood trail.
