I have got to like shooting the 45cal better more than the 50cal. guess I like it little more because there is a little less recoil. with the same amount of charge.

hoping in the next couple months to pick up another 45. and have plans to build an 45cal sidelock.

one more thing, about every where I buy muzzy stuff in my area carry a good about of 45cal bullets. so really not a problem for me.

I have had many 50cal BP riflesbut my most accurate rifle is my 45 Winchester Apex. I won't be using my 50cals to hunt with anymore.

For most hunters, the .50 cal is a better all-around choice. The .45 has a slight advantage at long range when shooting high-powered loads, but not by too much. I like my .45 because it's different- I've always been one to not want get something everyone else has. Also, I can shoot .40 cal bullets very accurately (not all .50's can do that) as well as .357 cal bullets. Having a "different" caliber is a lot of fun. Plus, it's easier to load it down with light bullets & less powder so that my dad (who is recoil sensitive) or my future kids can shoot it without fear of recoil.

But there are several disadvantages, mostly- difficulty in finding bullets/sabots at the local gun store. I usually end up ordering my bullets & sabots online because the selection is either bad or non-existant at the local stores.

The .50 cal is good, but foraround here in Virginia Igo with my .54 cal. Just MHO of course.

All my inlines are .50 and two of my cap locks are also. But my favorite caplock is my Hawkens Carbine in .54 cal.

I'll have to stick with my .50. Reason being what little muzzleloader supplies are in my area are for .50's. I don't order all that much stuff online. And, Theres nothing like puttin a whoopin on a deer with a 50 cal, 300gr chunk of copper.......but thats just my opinion.
