RE: Is a 50caliber Muzzleloader better then a 45caliber?
For most hunters, the .50 cal is a better all-around choice. The .45 has a slight advantage at long range when shooting high-powered loads, but not by too much. I like my .45 because it's different- I've always been one to not want get something everyone else has. Also, I can shoot .40 cal bullets very accurately (not all .50's can do that) as well as .357 cal bullets. Having a "different" caliber is a lot of fun. Plus, it's easier to load it down with light bullets & less powder so that my dad (who is recoil sensitive) or my future kids can shoot it without fear of recoil.
But there are several disadvantages, mostly- difficulty in finding bullets/sabots at the local gun store. I usually end up ordering my bullets & sabots online because the selection is either bad or non-existant at the local stores.
