Default PRB Shooting @ the Spring Fling

Well, it has begun... The Lolo Trail ML's held their anual "Spring Fling." It was a ton of fun and great food.

This is why i have been trying to sharpen my PRB shooting. Seems
like every weekend from now on the is ML Rondy someplace close enough around here that I can drive to and as much as I love shooting it really is a good excuse to go shoot.

Anyway I did OK @ the Fling - i only participate in the rifle shooting portion, do not have a pistol and I certainly con not stick a knife or hawk.

The shooting event starts off with each shooter shooting 5 targets and his/her tie breaker card. From there you move to the walking trail and shoot various targets at various distance - some easy some difficult - I mean difficult.

Now here is the real crux of the problem for me it is all off-hand not sticks no rests...

On the walking trail I really did better than I thought I would - I even went for the small spoon as i was feeling really confident. - got it also - worth 3 points...

Here is my 30 yard five shot target - at least I scored points for each shot - but lots of room for improvement. I shot the 50 cal Renegade with 70 grains T7-2f and a .015 pre-lubed patch. funny thing as the day warmed up it seemed lie it was really getting easier to push that down. I am going to try .018's sometime this week ans see it that helps accuracy. Gosh! i wish i could just leave well enough alone.

April 17 -18 -19 - Benton City. WA is next... Then the really neat one on Troy, OR.

That sounds like a lot of fun Sabotloader. Nothing like that going on in my neck of the woods - at least that I know of. The big thing around here seems to be sporting clays.

Is there a time limit on that 5-target shoot?

No, there is not really a time limit... you kinda organize yourself into a squad of 4-5 guys and just plug away. You do the same thing on the walking trail. Each shooter shoots the target, when all shooters are done then you move to the next station...

It is fun and fun friendly competition...

Sounds like alot of fun. Great shooting buy the way. The reason why they got easier to load was because you were pumped up from shooting so well. If it was bad, you wouldn't of noticed a difference.

Way to go... its nice when things work out. That shooting looks good. Are you using pre cut or pillow tick patch?

You need to get a hawk and knife. All you need is a chunk of old tree, split it down the center, a stand, and a back yard to practice in. You'd be surprised how easy it really is. When I did rendezvous, I used to compete in the hawk and knife all the time. I normally did pretty good. Of course that was years ago now.

Our gangused to spend hours and hourson the weekends throwing hawk and knife. Then we'd shoot and have a big cook out. I actually have four hawks, and three knives. When the gang would throw, we'd play end up playinghandles. Then spend all week nights making more out of alder. You can even throw a cheap old camp hatchet if you wantto. It brings lots of laughs from everyone at vous.. All you do is step up one step closer because the revolution is faster.

I kinda hate to say it but I am taking the easy way out using TC's all cotton patches. They are the pr-lubed variety and then i add the special 'secret' patch lube from the old timers in the Troy ML association...

You know back when iwas youg and we would set up a hunting camp in the woods - shoot we were always throwing knives and hatchets @ trees. The Forest Service would have a hernia now if they saw us doing that.

Your are right the food was outstanding.. and you know you end talking to people from all around the area... shoot and I am mot even a people person - I have always said even to my classroom - I hate people! but I guess these folks are not people just great folks and most are really easy to talk to....

SabotL, Have you tried ever lighter loads? as I read your post is 30yrds the longest shot? 40 to 50 gr. may give you awesome groups and kill the paper and spoons just fine out to 75 yards. I believe allot of target shooters load very, very light, you are looking for a consistent load, no energy needed beyound killing spoons.

Mike I find your statement about being a people person to be B/S.
Well when it comes to face to face people things may be different.
I know here and some other places you jump right in the help people with problems they have.
Sounds as if you are going to have to learn the off hand shooting styles and pratice.
If your having fun that is what is important.
