Your Renegade is a good quality rifle and .54 caliber is an excellent choice for hunting because the round ball is heavy enough to cleanly take any North American big game. I have taken elk, wild hogs, and a lot of whitetail deer with mine. I use 90-100 gr of 2F behind an 230 gr ball and it has never failed me. A conicle will probably give you a little more range. Experiment with different loads and find what works best for you.

My load is 110gr RS Pyrodex and a 535 PRB with a 18 thousands ticking patch dip in melted bore butter and placed between two rags to soak up the excess as it cools. I have used this load ever since TC came out will the Renegade 54, won matches and hunted in 3 countries with it. If you wish to stick with the 530 ball you may need to use a felt wad slightly over bore size and greased with BB to keep from blowing the patch. The first thing is to scrub your bore out with dish soap and boiling water to get the factory preseverative out the polish it then break it in with about 100 shots. Then test for the accuracy load and the hunting load. Lee
