I think i read someplace along the line that you did take the rifle to a practicing gun smith for inspection. Is that correct? If you did would you consider this person reliable? Has the gun gone to a second qualified gun smith for verification? Could you re-write what his visual inspection lead him to believe was the cause of the failure? And by-the-way as Lee has said hang on to the gun until your have reached your chosen conclusion. And as an added thought get everything documented. Treat it just like any another serious accident. Thanks for the information I hope you reach and all reach a mutual conclusion. |
RE: cva dangerous?
i'd still like to know what powerbelt he was using.
|
RE: cva dangerous?
yes I did take to gunsmith and yes I do consider him reliable myself, and everyone else I talked to in this area said he was the one I needed to talk to.yes the gun is here with me and will not be leaving until some mutual conclusion with CVA is reached.

If it was me I would take pictures until I had some real good ones and get statements from two gunsmiths and then contact them and tell them to look at copies of what I had and that I wanted to talk to a rep of the company before I spent any money on a lawyer. Lee |
RE: cva dangerous?
Tommy, I'm curious about the scope and mounts. Had you recently installed those (in particular the bases) or had they been on there a long time? Also, what was your cleaning method normally (before this event)?
Has your hearing improved? I'm very glad you weren't injured more severely. meant to also ask... do you still have the ramrod? I can't tell from those pictures. |
RE: cva dangerous?
scope was bushnell and mounts were factory both on gun new never had any problems with scope so never touched after setting, would clean gun at beginning of season, shoot two or three shots to check scope day before hunt, clean gun, then putin safe;then after dark (days hunting) would clean before putting back in gun safe, yes i still have ramrod but leave in safe because impact broke screw holding bracket and rod just hangs there

RE: cva dangerous?
Thanks for sharing that info. I wonder if somehow those mounts were improperly installed originally? I'm suspicious of the failure generating at the screw holes due to long term corrosion. Pyrodex is some wicked stuff. Perhaps a tiny flaw (maybe induced by the scope mounting??) provided a nice hiding spot for some the residue to hide even though you routinely cleaned the rifle.
Just shooting in the dark here for a reason this happened. You definitely deserve some answers. |
RE: cva dangerous?
to me it looks like it bulged from possibly a short started bullet. I know with my optima i had a bit of crud to push through before it seated on the powder. And the factory ramrod isnt quite the best one to use.
but who knows. Im sure we will hear the actual results from randy wakeman on what the lawyers think went wrong. |
RE: cva dangerous?
ORIGINAL: Breechplug Im no scientist or gunsmith, but holes in a barrel for scope mounts dont make the barrel any less thinner at that part of the barrel. It would seem that the powder charge would be in that same location as the scope holes. Hence, a improperly loaded charge would be a likely cause of the barrel bursting. In my opinion there is no way for sure to determine the exact cause of what happened, unless when you loaded the gun it was done by a team of experts on hand, then mabey we'd at least have a clue to waht happened. Im sorry for your mishap and Im glad your O.K. that's what really matters. But the true facts may never be known. I hope you find a cause to what really happened, and if in fact CVA was to blame then they should be accountable for it, but in this sport Safety and Good Gunmenship come first, and when we decide to join in this sport we better know the concequences to what may happen if we fail to do what is expected of us when we pick up a firearm. Dont be fast to blame the Manufacture when a mishap of our own doing occures. This is My Opinion and May God Bless you and your Famiy! |
RE: cva dangerous?
Guess being the KEY word.
Steve - no opinion. |
RE: cva dangerous?
Well what would be your guess on this one???? as I stated it was my opinion and also my guess, were all trying to get to the bottom of this so we can finally end it.

RE: cva dangerous?
