I've got a little extra cash squirreled away, so I've been thinking aboutgetting a flint barrel and lock for the Renegade. Called TC's Fox Ridge store and confirmed that the conversion is simply a matter of changing out the lock and barrel on the Renegade stock, and you can switch back and forth between flint and percussion.
They don't have barrels on hand - they make themto order. And you can't get the lock from Fox Ridge, you have to get them from TC.So I say "OK,I want a .58 flint barrel with a round ball twist", and the nice lady says "I'm so sorry, we don't make a .58 in flint. The .58 is only made inpercussion, and they have a 1 in 48 twist. We do make the.54 or.50flint witheither1 in 66 or1 in 48".
Well heck, I've already got a .54 flint. Really wanted a .58. Here are TC's options.
.58 percussion 1 in 48 - $175
.54 flint1 in 66 or 1 in 48 - $190
.54 percussion 1 in 66 or 1 in 48 -$180
So, I call Green Mountain. They don't have any .58 flints in stock.Expect to have a manufacturing run in three or four months. Price expectedto be $175.
Well,I'm thinkingthat .58 percussion from TC might be fun. But I don't understand why they have that 1 in 48 twist on what should be primarily a ball barrel. Then again, I don't have a .54 percussion. Could put that on the Renegade and, to keep it sinful, put a scope on that sucker.
Decisions. Decisions.

I had several 58 before I went to stricly 54 cal the 1-48 twist I had was the pits when it came to PRB the 1-66 and the 1-100 were excellent. I went to 54 because that shoot so much flatter than a 58. Lee

You know Lee, I've been thinking about that 54/58 trajectory difference. Funny how you can bounce from point to point when deliberating over what is going to essentially be a frivolous purchase anyway. Ikeep telling myself I don't have a .54 caplock and that scoped .54 option is getting more and more attractive. Then again - there's the X7.
