Nothing to do with shooting..general question
Ok this is a question for you old carpenters out there or handymen if you
prefer....Remember last year I had problems with a mink getting into the
chicken coop? Well,I haven't had much time to do much fixin on it and
would like to know if you think a mink or what ever would chew through
some of that crack sealer like Great Stuff-the foam sealer....Oh by the way
I did get two deer with my 50 cal. Lyman Mustang rifle...And thanks for
your help....I approve this message..[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]

If they want to get through.. they will get through. It might make them sick chewing it out, but I think they would do it. Have you considered wood triming with something like liquid nails to help hold it, and nail it to boot. When that liquid nails dries, they'd have to chew the board away.
We have weasels here. They are smaller but just as nasty. The least weasel to be exact. Or some call them a black tip weasel. What ever, they will kill chickens, especially the young ones.
What my friend does is puts a layer of fine wire under the coop and then brings that about two feet extra up the sides and wraps that like a Christmas Present with nice tight corners... It seems to keep them out.
I remember your trouble with mink. Being close to the water as you are, I do not think your troubles are over. Especially with winter setting in and food supplies dwindling..

Watched a mink catch a rabbit in a brushpile near one of my stands last year. That was a riot. I can imagine they would be difficult to exclude simply by patching the hole they use now. They'll find another way to get in. Applying the wire or hardware cloth around the entire structure seems like the best answer, unless you could catch him in the act. Then there's an obvious solution (bang!), until the next mink comes along.

I might suggest if you are going to use that great stuff to patch up a hole, you may want to toss in some D-Con into the stuff as soon as you apply it so it will stick. Give them something else to chew on. You can always add another layer of great stuff so the chickens don't get to the D-CON.

Your varmint will have no trouble chewing thru that foam at all. It is much easier to chew thru than wood if that gives you some idea about it. If you can, patch over the hole with sheet metal, much better than wood.

I use the chicken wire mesh and wrap under up abiut 2 feet. Do not scrimp on the staples and make sure it is tight to the walls. If they can get purchase they will rip it out. If you just want to patch the hole that sheet mwtal ideer works.

Back when I was married, we did the " Great Chicken Experiment". I ended up wrapping the whole coop w/chicken wire. Finally kept out coons, possums and weasels. That was after we lost 1/2 dozen chickens!!
