In this week-end's range session I decided to give the scoped .45 GM LRH barrel on the Renegade a workout with some 10mm/40cal180 grain Hornady XTP's in Harvester crush rib sabots.
I shot five5-shot groups at 50 yardswith 65, 75, 85, 95 and 105 grains of Pyrodex RS, and two 100 yard 5-shot groups with 65 and 105 grains. All targets below.
I did not adjust the scope at any time during the session.
65 grains / 50 yards

75 grains / 50 yards

85 grains / 50 yards

95 grains / 50 yards

The cap "pop" on the third shot of the next target was very weak, and gave me a noticeable hang fire.
I wonder if it would have been right in there with the others if I hadn't lifted my head.
105 grains / 50 yards (OH YEAH!)

65 grains / 100 yards
I was a little surprised at how much the 100 yard groups opened up.
Pretty sure it wasn't aiming error, but I guess it could have been.

105 grains / 100 yards
The last shot on thistarget (upper right corner) hit the wooden clothes pin I used to hang the target on the backer board.

Glad to hear that Sabotloader. It confirms my suspicion that it's just not a 100 yard bullet. That 65 grain load would be sweet for small critters at 50 yards or less - recoil with the Renegade is nil.
Don't know that I would shoot a deer with this bullet, but if I had to the 105 grain load is ripping right along -and you can't fault it's 50 yard accuracy.

I bought some 180 grain Barnes Expanders for the .451. A nice looking bullet. I figure if the White did not shoot them I would throw them in a blue MMP and try thing in some .50 caliber rifles. It might be fun to shoot them in a flintlock with a 1-48 twist. As for killing powder, I would suspect they should work fine if placed in the rifle spot.

I would have no qualms about shooting any deer (or elk) with a 180 grain Barnes. Those all copper Barnes bullets are, in my opinion, the absolute best hunting bullet made. I shoot 100 grain Barnes Triple Shocks in my 25-06. They are fantastic deer killers.

Traditon's had a sale on them so I bought ten (20) count packs. I figure since they are 10mm/.40 caliber bullets I can always find some way to shoot them off.
