T/C Pro Hunter cocking issue
#1
I bought a pro hunter last week and took it to the range for the first time on saturday. Four shots later and getting ready to shoot my fifth, I couldn't cock the hammer. I couldn't figure out what was going on. So I took the primer out....closed the action....and the hammer cocked fine. I replaced the primer...same thing. I did this several times until I finally decided to try another primer. And all of a sudden it worked just fine. I had this happen several more times throughout the day, each time the fix was replacing the primer.
Has anyone ever experienced this? I'm using Winchester Triple Seven primers. There were no visible defects on any of the primers that seemed to cause that issue....I'm still slightly stumped. Any help?

Moose,
I experienced the same deal early on (like the first range session with my PH). I was using the Winchester W209 primers. The solution for me was simply a good firm "snap" of the gun when re-hinging. I have read that most all primers vary in height (even within the same box/manufacturer). Try the firm snap and let me know how it comes out. Again, I'm not talking about slamming the action closed, just making applying a little pressure at the end.

You might also switch to Federal or CCIprimers - a bit shorter. But I think Hammer's solution is fine - that action should be snapped shut. Using the tighter fitting primer should yield less blowback.

I have usd the Winchestrs and CCI 209m in my Pro, not problems as you describe. If the primer is not seated correctly or the EZ tip Extractor is loose it might cause the problem you are talking about.

I had the same thing happen to me today with my Endeavor. Just a firm snap when closing the action took care of the problem. Again, your not slamming the action closed just firmly. Oh yea, I was using Win 209 Primers.

Thanks for the input fellas....I knew while I was still on the range that this would be the place to get the answer. I'm confident that is the problem since a few times I pansied it "closed" only to have the breech open up on me as I was getting settled in to shoot. Would have beena little embarrassing had anyone else been nearby on the range!
Good luck to all you guys thisseason.
