sighting in
I shot my CVA kodiak today for the first time. I was using 300 grain hornady sst, with 100 grns of shocky gold loose powder. With the new leupold ultimate slam scope on it. I was not real impresseed with the consistency of accuracy at 50 yds, which is as far as i got before running out of bullets. 3 or four inch groups at best. would like to try blackhorn 209 but have not found it retail around here yet. Any suggetions as to bullet, sabot or powder changes to tighten groups up a bit.it is a fifty cal. 28 inch barrel if that matters. Thanks a lot for any help.

APP sucks.
Get either some pyrodex,triple 7 or as u said, blackhorn. The sabots could also be an issue but take one thing at a time. |

i have loose pyro rs i use in my 54 cal but bought the shocky gold last year and wanted to try it.one good thing good about it is the clean up very easy. i do want to try blackhorn but am to cheap to order it and pay hazmat. may be i will shoot up rest of shocky gold rhen switch to pyro for now. any suggestions for different sabots or bullets. was thinking of the gold dots in bulk like the price of those, are they good knockdown wise on deer?

If your APP is old then I would doubt the power of it even more. I too would get some Pyrdoex Rs and do it all over again. Did the Hornady SST's load hard? Did you swab the barrel between shots (of course that is not necessary they claim with APP)? You might also want to try a lighter bullet like a 250 grain Shockwave. Good luck with your rifle.

Paul  See the 207 in the JSG column, that means shot to shot that JSG shot about 200 FPS difference, that is a lot compared to other powers, who are near 30 to 50 fps. Chap |

i did swab the barrel every 2 shots or so. they loaded hard the first inch or to of the barrel and then slid down fairly easy after that. one thing i noticed with my bullet starter it would push the poly tip down int the bullet is this common. if so is there a different bullet starter i should get or what?

One other thing the shocky gold was unopened brand new container. The pyro RS i have is open from like 2 yers ago does that go bad to?

we were sighting in our guns the other day. and i used the pyro pellets and my mates use 777 pellets. i used TC XPT 240 gr bullets and they used a variety ofpowerbelt 245 gr.
pyro produces less smoke but the 777 is alot easyer to clean and the powerbelt are so much easyer to load and makes it alot less stressful when they slide right down your barrel. [:@]with minimum force. both bullets were super accurate, but im thinking of switching to the powerbelt just for ease of loading. |
