Didn't see this in your report at first.... Eyes got one of dem pieces a wood under mine also... It has helped dis shooter a bunch... itz terrible when ya gotta give some credit to a block of wood for making ya a better shooter...

Can you elaborate on this block of wood you use to float the barrel? Any pics? Can I make or purchase one for my rifle?

Now that is some fine shooting. Isn't it nice when everthing works the way you want it to?
An other load you might try some time is 90gr BH and the 200gr Shock Wave this is one very good bullet BC is .267 and if I remember rightthe SD is 167. It is light recoil even cranked upto 120 gr of BH @2250 fps and one of the most accurate bullets I have shot at 250 yds

This particular piece of wood we are talking about is built for the Omega with composit stock. If youhave an Omega with the wood stock and even a Thumbhole composit stock - you really do not need the block.

If you have a composit stock take a look at the lug pockets in the stock they are very shallow and the walls of the lug pockects are not that thick. Recoil can cause a fracture/separtion problem in the bottom of the lugpocket. So to re-enforce the pockets I built a hardwood insert to snugly between the pockets and up against the lugs on the barrel. This stops all the front and rearward movement of the action in the stock. AND I SHOULD SAY "If the lugs are tight on the action" need to check those screws once in awhile.

With this block in place you can also instert a teflon shim in the bottom of the pockets to lift the action creating a floating barrel. The very front of the Omega compsit stock will flex under load and if that presses against the barrel it will move the POI. If you look at the barrel channel in the stock and you see any polished marks the barrel is moving and touching the stock - or you can do the old standby trick and slide a dollor bill under the barrel and done to the first recoil lug.

With the block and shims it makes it stonger and with the shims you get a floating barrel.

Interesting. Thats the same stock that I have. I think I might be able to make one of those. Probably won't look as good though. I can't tell from the pics but is the top of the block flat or is it concave to make room for the barrel?

There you have it SC Sportsman.One change in my rifle is that I used carborator shims in my lug pockets.But I'm sure as Sabotloader shared,the teflon will work great.Lemoyne,thanks for the 200 Shock Wave tip.Gonna try em' out ASAP.Lemoyne,in your opinion is that enough punch for whitetails.Or is that just for bragging when punching paper.Don't mind showing off good groups.Just hate for deer to get away. hunt4me

There is a depression in the middle of the block for the ram rod to pass through. I am on the wrong comptuer right now (I am suppose to be doing a football practice plan)to show you additional pictures - when I get back to other computer - I'll get some other pics, think I have some that will show other pics...

Just switched computers - do not have any other pictures that really show the shape of the block... If you are interested I can pull the block out and getsome additional pictures... let me know

Every now and then I see something that leads me to believe that people expect more penetration when they are close to an animal, that may be true with something like a full jacketed army bullet since it is not designed to open up[ mushroom] but with any type of hollow point bullet when it in the top end of its speed range it will open faster and which uses up the energy carried buy the bullet and therefore it will penetrate less than it would at a longer range. If all your shots are close one of the all copper bullets, a nosler partition, a bore size conical in a heavy weight [405 Powerbelt or Sabre tooth with 80 gr powder or a 460gr ] 0r reducing your load might help. The core bonded bullets are very good but even they do have reduced penetration when used at high speed and close range. I have run into this some myself as on my own property most shots would be around 25 but when on the other property I can hunt I often get shots up to 220 through I often past those shots there is one very difficult 10 point buck I have been after for 3 years I would take any reasonable shot at, Lee
