So how heavy can I go with the Hawken and that 1-48 .
I'm sure a mulie is in trouble with a pb and 100gr of Pyroout to 75-80 no problem .
No Elk or bears in my future maybe a Ca hog ...........I guess I could get in a bear place .
Seems like a bullet over 250 maybe 300 would be too long and of "deminishing returns" ie ;
energy gains vs range gains .

Don't completely discount sabots with a 1-48 Mine will shoot 200 or 230 gr bullets in to a 2.5 inch group and I have seen a couple inlines that did not do any better[ of course I suspected operator error was the reason] but that's good enough for hunting up to about 125 or so. Lee

with round ball, 100gr rs or any black powder would be a fine hunting load.
405grain is the biggest bullet ive shot in a rifle with 1:48 twist and it shot excellent.
bullet length to me doesnt mean a thing, except our stupid 1" rule in colorado.
anything from a 195grain to 405 grain powerbelt all shoot great in my rifles.

When I had a TC Hawken, about all I shot were 350 gn Maxi bullets lubed with TC Bore Butter - or Crisco shortening when I had to - with 95 gr of 2F. Not only am I another dinosaur, I'm a cheapskate to boot. So, I've never gotten into all the sabots and stuff. Too rich for my blood.

Gander , 1" rule ?????????????? min or max . bullet length ??
Any other unique rules I ought to know about .
I tried a few sabots Idon't recall brand they were great the first shot but rod benders after that.
The bullet looked like an egg sinker though ,a package deal for a half a day's work .
Any one tried a "bullet shaped" bullet had a friend that had some about 10 years ago for sabots they were a custom
thing he's lost the info .

I've had an invitation or 2 to hunt other states. I find even some of Nv rules to be excessively complex. This is the first time I've heard of bullet length restrictions. Iron sights only or no inlines or use of a crossbow during the any legal weapon hunt that is not defined as a legal weapon

So as the cheapest guy I know I went out to the garage and found a chunk of aluminum and haked up a speed bore bit and drilled a hole. I need a sprue plate and handle. In my test pour it looks like a 300 grain full conical 290 +- HP. I think I even have the lubing figured out. Will post more as I succed or not.

In a 1-48 twist try the Sabortooth the Maxie ball with 80 and 90 gr and the new Hornady FPB with 90 or 100 [it has shot well in every thing I have tried it in and I trust it to stay on the powder where some of the plastic wad things should be checked for that before shooting. Lee
