I would say about like a 12ga with trap loads, except that since I like to shoot a lot on the bench rest I make sure I get a 4 inch eye relief since the scope is closer to the eye the way I use a bench. Lee

It depends on what you load it with. I was shooting 90 grains pyrodex RS and a 300 grain bullet and it was pretty stout. I've since changed to 80 grains of 777 and a 220 grain bullet, much less recoil. So, it will depend on the load as to how much it kicks.

I am pretty recoil sensitive so I mount Limbsaver pads on all my muzzleloaders (some have to be ground to fit). If you stay with 80-90 gr of most synthetics or real black and 300gr. or lighter bullets the recoil is not punishing. If however you go to maximum loads or anything over 100gr. of powder and heavier than 300gr. bullets it will hit you hard. Those loads are only necessary if you are one of the guys that practice enough to be able to make good hits at ranges approaching 200 yards. I am not one of those. I limit my shots to 100 yards and 90gr. of powder and 300gr. bullets anchor elk at that range.

A lot of recoil is how you address the rifle. I've had the opportunity in my life to shoot some monster rifles. If you hold them wrong, they will let you know about it, and sometimes in a not to pleasant way.
Still a light rifle with a stout load will tend to kick more then a heavy one. Its a shame that we can not test fire rifles like we test drive cars. The idea of the limb saver is a great idea. I am one of these lucky onesthat is not recoil sensative.
The worst rifle I have is actually my Knight TK2000 shotgun. When you load 100 grains of powder and a full measure of turkey load, it will rock your world. When I was sighting in, I made sure I never shot it more then fifteen times in a row with the magnum loads.

That's as bad as the year I was turkey hunting with my double barrel 12 gauge. I was loaded with 3" Remington Nitro Express. And I made the mistake of having fingers on both triggers when I shot at a turkey. Turns out I hit both triggers. Needless to say the turkey never flinched, but I sure rolled off my little ground seat..
