Some facts.
The Savage is obviously classified as a MZ in virtually ALL states - use of smokeless powder in it is limited by a few states in their mz season.
What's primitive is another issue and has no widely accepted, clear definition - onlysome byorganizations and a few states.
The Encore and other rifles that allow switchung of barrels to non mz ones are classified by the feds and all states as different from dedicated mz's.

Its smokeless so thats close to a centerfire
Greetings FG,
So is "Blackhorn 209" close to a CF? As Lee has said, MLing is 1 shot hand loading. The savage is exactly that, and in fact loads are harder because 1g can make a big big difference in the Savage, with the inline and loose powder, it sometimes takes 10g to make effective change on POI. So CF has nothing to do with it, it is MLing pure and simple. Now if you want to say it is NOT primative, and Colorado has "primative weapons season" whereas most other states have "state of the art"equipment then I would say "yourright on". Best Wishes, Chap
Blackhorn 209 from my understanding is not smokeless. It is another powder on the market that is about as powerful as Triple Se7en. The difference is it does not fowl the barrel so there is no swabbing, and also it is much less corrosive then the other substitute powders. Some of the people that are shooting/testing BH209 have claimed 40+ shots with out swabbing or cleaning their rifles.

Also it seems to like a certain style of breech plug and does require a good strong pressure when loading. Some of the posts of targets on the modern muzzleloading forum with BH209 and the Triumph shooting shockwaves is just really something to see the groups they are shooting.

Greeting again FG,
Correct, it is from all I have read. So if jmaurath wanted to shoot Blackhorn in his TC Triumph inline would you label him or call him a CF shooter, because clearly Blackhorn is closer to smokeless than 777 is to Goex? Is anyone who shoots other than Goex a CF shooter? What about long range sharps black powder cartridge shooters? Are they CF or BP because they use a cartridge?Where is the CF and MLer line if not at single shot breech loading rifle as the definition of MLer? Not primitave weapons ML where Iwouldsay that a FL then is primative, a side lock is close as heck to an inline.
Best Wishes, Chap

I have read enough of your posts to have a pretty good idea of what you do and don't like. Most of the time I am on the other side as I do not have any Spanish rifles although they are fine if you like them, and I am not a pure traditional shooter although I have sidelocks and flintlocks. As far as this being a "Black Powder only" site I give you that you have a point on the name of the site; However, I think there is a large group that addresses this site that believes like I do that any muzzleloader that you want to use that is legal for your area is fine and none of my or anybody else's business. So; for the sake of passing on information cut us a little slack and let the information flow. Thanks, and sorry if I started a debate as I do not really want to do that. Smokeless is not legal in Arizona so I don't have a Savage but I can get BH209 locally and you are right it is expensive. I plan to give it a try but according to most reports it is a little picky on what you shoot and in what rifles.

They make all kinds because not every body likes the same style, I personally like the TC muzzle loaders best but the knights are excellent and so is the Savage, some of mine I built my self. I guess about the only thing I avoid is the cheap ones, I used to get sick of repairing them back when I was in the business.
You know some of the difference in what people like once you get into a decant quality gun is the type of action, I have a number of high power cartridge guns all bolt action and that's whatI like in a cartridge gun especially since I reload. Now In a muzzle-loader I tend to stay away from a boltaction because with out magazine they seem clumsy but that's a personal thing and I don't knock anything except poor quality, one of the best ways to check on that is by checking the national statistics on gun accidents if they have many that blow up in peoples faces they are junk.
