Default Shot some Platinums into sand

Took the cabelas hawken out and took 2 shots with the 270g platinums @ 58 yards and 120 grains Pyrodex Select.

Might work with a lung shot but i wouldnt touch the shoulder. I think it would have to be a minimum of 70 yards for them to hold together with 120 grains powder.

Had a brain storm and seeing how i hadn't tested the Aerotip 295g powerbelt, I went and stole some Tips out of the 245's i have and squeezed them into Two 295g powerbelts and loaded up 100g pyrodex select, 58 yards.

The Aerotips held up very well VS the Hollow points, which went paper thin with this charge/yardage.

Maybe tomorrow i will go a head and test those big 405's out at 71 yards and see how they do in the sand box.

Left side = 100g PS - 295g AT
Right side= 120g PS-270g Platinum

frontier gander, Have you ever tried filling the hollow points with lead or epoxy? If I really wanted to use PB's thats the first thing I would try. Lee

Edit: I filled some 245 and 295g hollow points with JB weld. They came out pretty good looking so i will give those a try tomorrow and see how they do. Probably wont do anything but it will be interesting to see.

Got all kinds of loads ready for tomorrow. Have to find a new target box and set that up so everything will be ready.

405g AT
295g AT
295g HP
245g HP
245g AT

And then the Ol' Great Plains comes out pushin a 224g powerbelt round ball

Should have a nice little stash of powerbelt lead after this next outing.

Ok those done, Here are some pics.

I also took some 295g Aerotips, Filed off the stem on the tip and filled the hole in with JB Weld and reinserted the filed off Tip.

245g HP/JB WELD

295G AT/JB WELD/COMBO

I'll test these first at 58 yards tomorrow and then move back to my 71 yard range and test the other bullets.
