Ya! well read what Ole had to go through up there in Lakes country...

Ole had a car accident. Got hit by a truck in a winter storm. In court, the trucking company's lawyer was questioning Ole.
>
> 'Didn't you say, sir, at the scene of the accident,'I'm fine,'?' asked the lawyer.
>
> Ole responded, 'Vell, I'll tell you vat happened. Ihad just loaded my favorite mule, Bessie, into the...'
>
> 'I didn't ask for any details', the lawyerinterrupted. 'Just answer the question. Did you notsay, at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine!'?'
>
> Ole continued, 'Vell, I had just got Bessie into thetrailer and I was driving down the road....'
>
> The lawyer interrupted again and said, 'Judge, I amtrying to establish the fact that, at the scene of theaccident, this man told the Minnesota HighwayPatrolman on the scene that he was just fine. Now several weeks after the accident he is trying tosue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tellhim to simply answer the question.'
>
> By this time, the Judge was fairly interested in Ole'sanswer and said to the lawyer, 'I'd like to hear whathe has to say about his favorite mule, Bessie.'
>
> Ole thanked the Judge and proceeded. 'Vell as I vassaying, I had just loaded Bessie, my favorite mule, into da trailer and vas driving her down da highvayven dis huge semi-truck and trailer ran da stop signand smacked my truck right in da side. I vas throwninto one ditch and Bessie vas thrown into da other. Ivas hurting, real bad, and didn't vant to move. However, I could hear Bessie moaning and groaning. Iknew she was in terrible shape just by her groans.
>
> Shortly after da accident da Minnesota HighwayPatrolman came to da scene. He could hear Bessiemoaning and groaning so he went over to her. After helooked at her, and saw her fatal condition, he tookout his gun and shot her right between da eyes.
>
> Then the Patrolman came across da road, gun still inhand, looked at me and said, 'How are you feeling'?Now vat the hell vould YOU say?'

It isn't so bad. Today is the first day of spring and we're not calling for snow til Sunday. Tomorrow the family and I are headed for the Sugar Shack for some fresh brewed Maple Syrup, a sleigh ride and pancakes. yummmmmmy..
And to top it all off, I was informed today at work that our upgrade has finally come through, that's good for a 4k increase in pay per year. Plus it's back dated to Dec 04. Papa smell's a new toy!!!

we call a burbot a "lawyer" and a lot of people will not have anything to do with them because they are so ugly. Actually they are an excellent eating fish. I think someone told me they were a member of the cod family actually. That would account for the nice white meat in them.

I've always considered lawyers slimey bottomfeeders, like used car salesmen/politicians etc.............Seriously though Ling/burbot or lawyers are freshwater cod or a close relate. When they spawn from mid feb to mid March the fishing is nuts.We caught 25 a day easy all in the 4-7 lb range. The beauty of it is the whitefish ravage the spawning beds and we nail them too.Not to mention the big pike shredding the whites. To clean burbot I drive a 6" spike through a 2X4 and impale the fish through the head, cut around the neck skin, make two incisions along both lower and upper fins.Grab the skin with a pair of locking vicegips and pull the skin off like a sock head to tail.Fillet leaving rib cage on carcass. No bones.Use fish crisp from walmart. And fry in olive or veg oil til browned. If you can get past the ugly they are tasty.I make my own jigs[thumpers from worn out .222 brass and pored lead]Harold * got 7 whitefish and two pike before work this AM

You clean them the same way I do... I take cornmeal, some pepper, salt, paprika (Hungarian red is the best), and some garlic powder. Mix all that together, and then after you have the filet's clean and cold, dip them in beaten egg, roll them in the cornmeal seasoning and lay them in hot olive or canola oil in a cast iron fry pan. When they start to turn white, flip and do the other side.. Those slimy ugly devils are suddenly very good looking on a plate with serving of some whole kernel corn and cole slaw...

I have a friend that fishes Superior all the time on the ice, and he will not mess with them, so he brings me a bunch of them. I just clean them all up and freeze them in milk cartons with water. Then when I want fish, I unthaw the milk carton of them and make up a mess ....
