Shot My CVA Magnum Hunter Today
#1
Got my CVA Mag. Hunter back on Saturday from a long term loan. Took it out today and fired it. Found out that the guy had adjusted the scope so that the gun no longer shot high: I like my muzzleloaders to shoot 2-3" high at 100 yards. It took several shots to get it dialed in. Then shot a five shot group at 110 yards. The 100 yard line is still in adeep mud hole.
Forgot my 209 primers and had to use the Winchester 777 primers from my shooting box. This may have been a good thing.
Gun: .50 CVA Mag. Hunter with floated barrel
Scope: Redfield 4X Widefield
Primer: Winchester 777
Powder: 100 grains of 777
Bullet:300 grain XTP .430 caliber
First two rounds in the group are from a clean and a dirtybore respectively. Cleaned the bore after the second shot and fired three more shots without cleaning:Two bullets went into one slightly elongated hole and thethird bullet is the second one from the right.Aiming point was the bottom of the bull.
That cheap CVA probably shoots better than my Encore: It is not nearly asfinicky aboutboreswabbing when used with 777.
This is going to be my spring and summer pig gun and load.
