I am still debating about the .22 magnum thing.
I didnt get what i hoped to get for christmas ( the marlin 925m .22 mag bolt action) so i was looking around at some .22 mags that i could afford
the marlin 925 m bolt action is arounf 190-230

the nef sportster single shot is around 130 dollars

what should i get with a limited budget and a good gun for target shooting squirrel and coyotes and one with a scope?
Thanks

what are you going to be doing with this rifle? if you will be using it as a small game rifle, check your state laws first. here in Florida you can not use a .22 mag during the small game season. unless you are hunting the larger of the small game (yotes and such), i think a .22 lr would be plenty sufficient. i have also taken hawgs up to 150 pounds with the .22 lr with no issues (head shots). plus with the .22 lr ammo is ALOT cheaper and the rifle itself is cheaper. i just got a Marlin .22 lr bolt action to small game hunt with. all i need to do now is pick up scope rings/bases and throw on one of my extra scopes.

Best bet is to get a used marlin bolt action in .22 mag from gun store or pawn shop. You'll want to use fmj or solid bullets for squirrels as they duplicate .22Lr hp wound channel, and hollow points for yotes. A 3x-9x to a 4x-16x scope will work best.

the .22 mag would be great for yotes BUT unless you can head shoot every squirrel...it'll tear the meat up bad. also .22 mag rounds are expensive, atleast around these parts, compared to the .22 lr rounds when it comes to target shooting. i'm not knocking the .22 mag, it's a great caliber, to me it's just too expensive for what i do with a .22.
