Default Maxi-Balls

For those of you who have shot maxiballs how well do they perform on game? I ordered some 58cal 615gr maxiballs so I think they should do a number here in Colorado. They were actually suppose to be 580gr but I dont know. They will be a little heavy but should shoot fine.

So my question is, how well do the maxiballs work on game?

I shot a deer many years ago with a .54 caliber maxiball and it was all the power that rifle needed. The maxiball went in behind the front shoulder, and hit the shoulder on the opposite side coming out. It knocked the deer flat right there. They are accurate though in a lot of rifles.

sharp shooter; I have taken 5 or 6 whitetails in s.mich w/.50 370gr maxis. most were boom flops relatively close range, 75yds or less. 90gr goex ffg. those biguns should do the job on most anything you want to tackle. Make sure you can work up a accurate load!!

2 lost deer thanks to them. These were the 240 grain " I think" Maxiballs in .45cal.

I have shot four deer with home rolled 370 grain Maxis. Very powerful and accurate with the right load. Two of them dropped on the spot, one ran 50 yards, one ran 100 yards(shot through the heart). I found 2 of the bullets and they had flattened except in the base of the bullet.

They are plenty deadly with proper shot placement. They don't seem to expand much, penetrate well though.

I've used them in .45 to harvest 4 whitetails, two mule deer, two hogs and a javelina. Recovered only two slugs, one from a cull-buck taken at around 150 yds (if he hadn't been a cull I wouldn't have tried the shot).

The other was on a feral hog boar where the bullet entered over the eye and ended up around the shoulders (full-frontal shot, he's the hog in my avatar-pic).

I like them in my .45 sidelocks as they are easy to load, accurate and punchier than a PRB. Cheap too when you cast them yourself.

I had a 54 shoot end to end on a doe the fawn came back and went throug the shoulders never moved. This was on QDM land with too many does. It is a very effective bullet
