You're expecting too much DCH, you'll never get 8000 fps out of that flintlock.

I am not sure how altitude effects velocity. Some of the people that hunt the mountains would know about that. But with a rifle like you have, you really do not need to worry too much about that. The little difference altitudeis going to make should not be a life or death thing. Too much is placed on fps of a projectile. Accuracy and hitting the right spot is more important.

Read your instructions close. Goex is hard to find in many places, but keep looking. And I commend you for wanting someone to show you the ropes. The only reason I shoot all year is because of my personal range. And right now I can only shoot at 50 yards. Once the snow melts it will be different.

I went out today with good intentions of doing my homework... but believe it or not, it was just too cold. Even though it was 19ºs and dropping, when I first got out there I did not take into consideration the wind coming off Lake Superior. It was a strong wind at that, and the temperature was dropping and the wind was getting stronger. I'd forgotten my gloves in the house, and my eyes were watering too hard to see, and the dog ate it...
I am going to have to "borrow" this in July.

I went out today with good intentions of doing my homework..but believe it or not, it was just too darn hot. Even though it was 115 (in the shade) and rising, I did not take into consideration the wind coming off the mountain. It was a strong wind at that, and the temperature wasrising and the wind was getting stronger. The barrel...hell, the stock was too hot to touch. Took a break to scramble an egg on the concrete but then the dog ate it...

Good shooting caygad. It isn't any fun when the winds pick up on a cold day.
