Ok guy's, when you are cleaning your barrel with a jag, how do you keep the patch from falling off and staying in the barrel.I have always used a slottedcleaning tipwhen cleaning my rimfires. Wats da secret????? Dumb question from an old beginner.

If your using the proper size jag the patch should stay with it due to the friction of the serrations or knurling on the jag, unless you are pushing it through with the breach plug removed.

The jag just has to be the right diameter for the bore...Most are actually too tight, the patch and jag should go down loose, so you are pulling the crud, not pushing down to the touch hole...I chucked several of mine up on a drill and used a file to make them smaller, then recut the notches with a file to help them grip better...

The right patch is important too...I buy flannel from Walmart and cut to about 2 inch squares...

If it keeps falling off on you, it sounds like your patch is to small and possibly the material is not thick enough. I always just use a piece of paper towel folded in half.

If the jag and the patch are the right thickness and you are using the right size patch [2x2 for 50 cal] then stop for a few seconds before you pull it out of the barrel or the sucksion thats built up can suck it of the jag and right back down the barrel. The fit from jag to patch to barrel should be snug enough that it take a little effort to move the ramrod. Lee
