I have a question, when buying a black powder firearm do you have to have it sent tosomeone with an FFL? I was just curious cause it says it on just about everything.

My understanding is NO. Blackpowder firearms can be purchased without a FFL. Now I'm not sure, but there may be an exception to this and that is maybe buying something like an Encore that can be converted to a cernterfire rifle with a change of barrel.

Depends upon your state of residense. Most do not require transfer to an FFL. That why you can by blackpowder firearms from Cabelas, etc.. and have them shipped to you.

Here in Arizona BP guns can be shipped to your door.

Likerdpettit said, it depends upon your state.

Check your State regulations.. Come States do require that a Federal Firearm Licensed Dealer be involved in the transaction. That is because they can then keep a record of the firearm and its location. Probably more so, ... so they can charge a fee.

Also check the Seller's requirements. Some of them now are demanding that the weapon be shipped to a FFL. While the State might not require it, they do. A lot of that is for liability reasons I believe. But in most cases, sense a black powder rifle does not fall under the guidelines of a firearm they can be shipped to your door.

I bought one online and UPS brought it right to my door.
Like everyone else said, check the state regs.

This is correct. An FFL is required for rifles or any gun that can be easily converted to a rifle (like an Encore). Straight ML's are not restricted unless your state restricts them for some reason.
