LOAD FOR 45cal
I just bought a Disc Extreme .45cal never owned a .45 before only .50cal
looking for the optimal starting point, still havn't made up mind if I want to shoot sabots or Bull Shop Conicals. I have 50cal Disc Ext. that I shoot both out of, and a KRB that I shoot the BS Conicals out of but not sure of the .45. Any Help on suggestions would be great Thanks |

Any Help on suggestions would be great Thanks http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2533545 I cut and paste it into here for your convenience, best wishes on bullet selection, it is >>the<< most important part of ML shooting, 'cause it is doing the work of the gun. Bullet selection for the .45 cal is sparce, they make a Barnes MZ for the .45: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=0003540052 that is one of the best, if it will shoot well in your gun. Hornady XTPs would stay together better than a PB, but they separate from their jackets at hight speed (i.e. close shots): http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00072XTP24520 If ya wanted to get a bit more range than the Hornady XTP, then there is a .45 Hornady SST: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=0000367132 A better bullet would be the Speer Gold Dot at .400 diameter, 180g (there are 100 in a box of these bullets for $22, that is 22 cents each, you can beat that): http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000214406 you of course would mate this with a Sabot designed for .45 cal bullets such as Harvester Crushed rib: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00072H14540BR or Harvester Black: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00072H4540B Those are your choices and all are better than a PB in my opinion, but that is mine only, not a universal truth. Best Wishes on your bullet selection. Chap Gleason |

RE: LOAD FOR 45cal
i would shoot the sabots you get better long range ballistics than conicals

RE: LOAD FOR 45cal
I tried the 420gr BS conicals in my .45 Disc Extreme. I got good accuracy if I kept the powder charge at 55grs or lower (T7 3f). I sold mine and bought a White .451. Shoots conicals and sabots better than the Knight.

RE: LOAD FOR 45cal
Indiana,
This is the load I use in my .45: 10mm 200 grain XTP MMP sabot 80 grains loose 777 Federal primer I'm sighted in to be dead on at 100 yards. It's maybe 1/2 inch high at 50 yards, and I haven't experimented much past 100 yards, but according to the charts I've looked at, it should only be 5-6 inches low at 150. Past 150 it's going to drop pretty fast. I've taken 2 deer with this load, both BOOM-flops at around 100 yards. |
RE: LOAD FOR 45cal
Not a knight, but my .45 lovesa 225 grain powerbelt over 80 grains triple 7 or pyrodex p. Deadly on deer.
