Hey gt, I use the 300 grain GDs, but have never shot a deer under 60 yards with them. The only reason I go with the 300's is that I have shot possibilities out to 150 yards or so, and want the extra weight for penetration at that range. If I were certain all of my shots would be under 100 yards, I'd use the 250's and have no doubt that theywill expand and hold together with a powder charge around 80 grains. Our deer are in the same weight range as yours.

I hunt these lil ole LA deer and I have had good results with the 250grn shockwave, with 100grns Triple 7.. i killed a deer and a hog and both had complete passthroughs, deer ran about 50 yards and piled up and the hog ran about 30 and piled up. I get sub MOA groups at 100 steps also... Another thing you can buy them at Wal-Mart which is really convienient.. At the end of hunting season wal-mart had them on clearance for like 7 bucks. If I need bullets I tell the wife to pick me some up while she is grocery shopping hahaha....
Now outta my rifle I shoot (30-06) I have had excellant results with 150grn Winchester Power Points they are killers.......
