RE: GOT MY FIRST DEER

my usak is not picky, I am, I have groups about everything I have put though it. I got some tc maxiball 350gr. it grouped great with 85grs of pyrodex p, but I am going to lower the charge, it hurt alittle.[&:]

I got some 245gr powerbelts that grouped well. I am going to pick up some great plains down the road

Congrats Mr. Unlucky;)

Have you tried a Hornady great plains conical or even a powerbelt? I say you need to sell that picky shootin inline and buy your self a PRB shootin sum'gun :D:D
FG,
Lets let him get a few under his belt before we try to graduate him to percussion or FL. the Knights are good shooting rifles, he just needs to solve his jitter, buck feaver, or "fumbleness" before he tries a harder rifle. Chap

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had good luck with 300 grain XTPs so far. 2 for 2 with them, but I prefer Barnes Expanders if the rifle will shoot them accurately. As for cost, $1.00 each isn't bad if you don't waste them all on targets. I like to get the rifle on paper with cheaper bullets, then switch to the Barnes and fine-tune the adjustments. ;) When I get it zeroed I save the rest for hunting.

He can buy a percussion:D:D

Corey, Recoil is fixed with a Limbsaver recoil pad. You can buy the slip over to make it easier. Worth every penny.

I do the same with the XTPs and Gold Dots, I get my gun shooting well with them, then switch over to Noslers, the 300g XTPs and Gold Dots hit about the same as the Noslers.

You can get one of the TC Renegades percussion for $149 here:

052627
USED T/C RENEGADE 54CAL
315792 CO
$149.95

http://www.williamsgunsight.com/gunsights/813usedblkpowderguns.htm

They will let you try a gun for 3 days, if you don't like it, clean it and return it and you get your money back. I have not bought from them yet, but others have on this forum and they say they are great.
Chap

Congrats on the deer. You want pass through and a blood trail? Pick up some Barnes 250 or 300gr Expander MZ's. You don't have to shoot them year around seeing the are pricey. Do what I do, shoot bulk bullets for fun and hunt with the Barnes. I didn't need blood trails this year with the Barnes. The first one went 15-20 yards, fell within sight. #2 was a boom-flop.
