if you took a shot like that, i'd cut your charge back down to 80 grains t7 and give it another try.

Was the entrance hole and exit hole the diameter of the bullet itself? When they are going to fast they sometimes not expand or they will over expand.

2 deer that i shot with 120 grains and 150 grains of powder went throught the deer and dropped them in their tracks, but the exit holes were the diameter of the bullet. Once i started to experiment with different charges and shooting into logs, i found that 80 grains triple 7 offered the best bullet performance. They dont over expand or loose any weight. I honestly would back it down to 80 grains like i said and give it another go. Powerbelt actually recommends charges from 60 grains to 90 grains maximum.

Go now and buy some 260 grain Nosler Partition's, load them behind your two pellets or 100 to 110 grains of 2f 777.I would use HPH 12's for sabotsor if they are to tight HPH 24's. Trust me, your problems will be over!;)

I shoot the 300g Noslers, because they shoot thru a deer instead of being under the skin in the off side. Chap Gleason

Guys I really thank you all for the comments and help, I will not give up on the Muzzleloader I just enjoy it too much! I was very happy with shots and placement, with my .270 Rem and 270WSM and 7MM Mag I have become custom to shoulder shot where I do NOT have to even think of a blood trail because 99.9 have all dropped where they stood, I guess from reading and listening to others I decided to try and take the lungs/heart shots. As I said above I did get full penatration and full pass through, while cleaning the deer I did find a large piece of lung material blocking the exit hole BUT that should not have prevented blood at the intial point of impact, and I said they were in a food plot with large leaf plants such as Rape and turnips and NO BLOOD was to be found.
I will read much more and decide which bullets to use for the next time I decide to start packing it again, as far as accuracy the gun is SUPER and I have 100% confidence in the shots I take, I guess I just put too much stock in the 245 grain hollow point. I guess like all new adventures we have to be taught each lesson and learn all we can, I just hate that not recovering a deer is the key point to my lessons. One KEY lesson is that I will NOT be using PB's from this time forward!!

What about the Triple 7 pellets, is the powder that much better than the pellets and since I am only using 2 pellets should I increase to either 130 grains or even 150 grains? I have the T/C Encore that is the magnum which is rated for 150 grains of powder?

With that said PLEASE keep me informed of any information you can throw at me!!

Many Thanks again!

GOOD SAFE HUNTING TO YOU ALL!!
If you want to anchor a deer right there then shoot any of the following bullets:

Nosler Partition (either .458 rifle, SabotLoader shoots those, or .451 Hand Gun bullets, I shoot those) here is a URL: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=0011545350

Speer Gold Dot (SL calls them poor man's partition, bonded bullet) I use them in my FL they are only $16 for 50. Here is a URL: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000213974

Any Barnes Bullet (.451 XPB Hand Gun bullet, .458 X Bullet, .458 Origonal Barnes, Expander MZ or TMZ). Here are the URLs (I just bought some today):

TC Shockwave (bonded is best) UR: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000308215

All of them will hold up to bone and shots at difficult angles. I shoot a Crushed Rib sabot in my Omega and Knight Disc and my TC FlintLock.

You can try the suppled sabot with the bullets, but you need something tight for accuracy. So buy some MMP HPH 12s, 24s, 3petal EZ, some Orange sabots for .458 bullets and some Harvester Crushed Rib sabots:

here are the MMP 12s (I think they are, since they are maginum):

So there ya go. Best Wishes on your bullet selection.

No, usually less than 50. The Noslers don't have an "explosive head" like a Parker Ballistic Extreme, so they don't get as much "splash" inside the animal. They always shoot thru, always penetrate bone.

Yes Gander the Entrance and Exit holes were perfect size of the bullet, before and after skinning if you were to look at the deer you would NOT have known which side was the entrance side. The buck was almost broadside but a little quartering to me so the entrance was justbehind the tip of his right shoulder and the exit was about 3 to four inches off his left shoulder, I was only about 12 to 14 feet off the ground and between 125 to 140/150 yards. So the elevation height between entrance and exit wasn't a lot of difference in fact almost even.

Man I am getting some SUPER feedback on this post, you guys are GREAT! I will be making a few changes but unfortunately I will be making one change at a time so I will know what works the best for me. As far as going from T7 pellets to powder I think I will try that actually later but I will be making bullet changes first, I will be picking up a few different ones today and seeing which actually groups the best. I will certainly be breaking out the smoke pole for the at least one more kill and seeing how it works........BUT PLEASE don't get mad at me if I end up whinning and crying on your shoulder if I don't find another deer! Don't think my heart could take it! LOL

Seriously THANK YOU ALL!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

It has already been said but I would advise you to shoot the .451/260 grain Nosler - either with the two pellets or 100 to 110 grain of T7-2f. This is a deadly combination. I have been using and recommending this combination since I switched from centerfire to ML.

I have not practicle experiance with a Power Belt other than shooting them recreationally - but if you were to choose to shoot a PB which is really nothing more than an elongated round ball and classified as a conical. If you were going to shoot a conical there are much better conicals available.

You might check this thread out:

possible PM Bigtimer about his experiance with the Nosler...
