i have the cva hunterbolt and shoot the powerbelt 245gr bullets, with 100gr of pyrodex pellets, shoots a 2" group at 100yds. I took a buck and and a doe this past muzzleloading season-both at approx 100yds, also took a coyote. I have cheapo 3-9 simmons scope mounted, couldn' t be happier for the $$ invested in this rifle

I have a CVA Firebolt with 209 ignition. It is very accurate. Why pay 3, 4 or 500 for a gun that will do the same thing a cheapie will do?

Personally I' d opt to spend a little more and get a higher qualitly gun. You can buy a Lyman Deerstalker for about $200. Great gun. I' m sure the others would work for you though.

4 guys I shoot with use traditions, they seem to work fine and accuracy is as good as many of the more expensive MLers. They may not be pretty, but they' ll chuck them just fine, provided you have/find the right load combo.

A buddy who owned a CVA (I appologize, can' t remember what model and it was a few years now), we had real troubles with developing a load that would shoot accurately. He ended up going to a knight. Not sure if this indicative of the newer models or CVA, it could have been just his gun. I would view that experience as an FYI and certainly wouldn' t go to the wall to say all CVA' s would behave in similar fashion. Just passing on an experience.

UPDATE:My cheap CVA Mountain Stalker just dropped a buck dead in its tracks.Due to his position I only had a neck shot at 40yards.$69.00, it was well worth it.Oh my first BP deer!

i have a traditions deerhunter, with the non adjustable iron sites i average about 6 inch groups at 100 yards with patched roundballs. i' ll tell you one thing, for a ML with a side hammer using a no 11 cap i' ve never had a misfire, even after shooting 6-7 times one right after another without swabbing it out.

got 2 deer with it so far and dropped both on the spot. One of those deer was on opening day last year, never unloaded the gun the year before ...opening day put a cap on and headed in the woods and fired like a champ!

i only paid like a $100 for it and am happy so far.
