Yeah, it's probably lead contaminated If you want to purchase cheap powder check your local Wal Mart around December-Janurary. I bought 1lb cans of Pyrodex RS, and boxes of 50gr Pyrodex pellets for $4 a piece. Stock up....

It is alreadybeing marked down in price at our local Wal-Mart. The secret is not to wait too long.

The only way to get a deal on powder is to watch for sales. Wal Mart is best know for the end of the season sales. I normally pick up ten pounds of Pyrodex there and some pellets. The other way is to buy direct from a supplier like Powder Inc, Graf's & Sons and pay the hazmat. If you get a case of powder the hazmat is under a buck a can. For black powder that means I can shoot it for around $11.00 a pounds. Which is not all too bad.

I'll third this! The commies aren't known for rigid quality control standards, which is not good when dealing with explosives. I'd gladly pay a bit more for powder of high quality from a company that knows it could be sued for anything less which keeps them on the straight and narrow. The chinese company, owned by the communist government, is untouchable both civally and criminally by the U.S. consumer, and therefore has no incentive to make a safe product.

The last thing I would buy "on the cheap" is powder. Although, I have to admit, back in the day I bought quite a few cases of imported SKS ammo.
