Email i sent to Powerbelt bullets.
Hello, Im trying to get an idea on the performance i > am getting out of my rifle with a powerbelt. > Im shooting a deer creek northwest rifle with a 32" > long barrel, a 225 grain aerotip powerbelt and 100 > grains FFFg Goex blackpowder. > > I looked on the website and it does not give the > performance #'s when you are using an aerotip with > loose powder.
Response,
Jon Sorry about that. We developed the .45 cals. for use with Pellet type powder. Usually we have to reduce the Powder charge when using loose powder, somewhere between 60 and 90 grains. The Gas Checks were designed to beak away and when we use loose powder medium charges it will sometimes 'partially' break away. If you are getting good accuracy then the 100 grain charge of Black Powder will be the equivalent of 85 to 90 grains of Pyrodex. Unfortunately we do not have those specific ballistic data. The M.V. will be just a little less than the 100 grains of Pyrodex Pellets. Thank you.
I guess this email explains the Flyers people complain about due to the gas check not coming off the bullet when using higher powder charges. Now if we could get these Magnum charging guys to cut back their powder, they'll start having success with a powerbelt and leave massive blood trails like the one i got with the 225 aerotip.
Whoa, Sorry bout that, Not sure where all that script came from lol.

It actually has had one of the most hits on this forum before it played it.Anyway, we will see this over and over and over again on this forum because of their fragmentation issues at high speed.

I gotta ask this because I do have some powerbelts in my bullet line up for hunting. third or forth on my list. I am pushing 245gr hp with about 85 to 90grs of pyrodex p. you covered an areo tip that is lighter with the email. should I be worried about fragmentation (if I use them) issue?

There ismore than one way to deal with that. First off PB's will shoot out of two out of three of my inlines with excellant accuracy, they do not do near as well out of the system one.
IF YOU WANT OR NEED A FLAT TRAJECTORY FORGET THE PB's thres lots of good bullets like the SW and Gold Dots that got a lot of capabilities compared to the PB's they are over priced badly for one thing and have to much limitation on velocity for a second and for a third the Sabor Tooth is a much better designed bullet that will work at any velocity that a muzzleloader is capable of and still mushroom nicely and they have a better BC andthey are a lot better priced to boot; I have trouble understanding why some people insist on talking about those outdated dinosaurs. to start with ,they need to stop making all ML bullet lighter and lighter each year, pretty soon we'll be shooting the same weight bullets in a ML that we shoot in centerfire rifles. when i first started ML hunting everyone was shooting 400grn bullets.
use the 295 powerbelt with 100grns of powder and kill anything easily.i've seen it done hundreds of times.

lemoyne, Not all states can use a sabot. With my deer creek .45, that sucker will shoot 3 in a row perfectly with no flyers, that is of course, if i do my job and dont jump the trigger
Sabertooth i will never use again and it did not shoot nowhere near as great as powerbelt in my winchester. Ive never hunted with them other than one time and i got stiffed with the plastic cup that didnt hold the bullet in while i was walking.
I bought 30 225 grain aerotips for $30 and that included shipping. I like how powerbelt offers a wide range of different bullet weights.
SRW, i agree. Ive seen guys shooting the 195 grain powerbelts at elk and say, Well, i shoot elk with only a 165 grain bullet in my 30-06! A 195 grain bullet will take it down easily!

not exactly sure about that. GBO has a few guys shooting 195 grain powerbelts that love them and swear by the performance they do on deer.
I still say a 195 grain powerbelt is to small for even a small deer.
