I'm about 99% sure I'm gong to order a Omega. Was wondering what the best and (affordable) bullet would be. Was leaning towards the 240-250 gr XTP. I've used some Power Belts in the past with a older CVA and although they shot well, the just seem to blow apart even with just 100 gr of Pryodex pellts. Isee where TC is packaging some what look like XTP's. I've used the 300 gr XTP's in a Knight I had years ago and they shot great. Just was wondering how the XTP's shot out of the Omega. Thanks

I know I sound like a broken record here to people who have been here a lot... Get some .452/250 grain Speer Gold Dots... they are a bonded bullet that will hold together and they are accurate. You will also need some MMP HPH-24 sabots or some regular Harvesters (I think with the shorter petals are the best).

Stay away from the Power Belts if you can.

Just my opinion but the Speers are a better bullet than the XTP's but the XTP's are not a bad bullet either.

I shoot the Omega with 110 grains of T7-2f - some have an awful time with the so called "crud ring" I do not so it really works for me.

My Omega will shoot most bullets quite well, I used the 50/40 200gr Shock Wave and the 200gr 40 CAL[10mm] last year they did quite well on both deer and boar, In my opinion the best long range bullet available.
I have used the 250 gr and the 230 gr XTP with good sucess but this year I used the 250 Gold Dot it shoots very accurate out of my new Triump [the Omega and the System One are taking a break this year] and its preformance with a 100gr load of 777-FF has been very impressive this year. Check the post on Gold Dot for pic or the bullet that went through my buck and dropped him on the spot, it was a couple inches in the ground on the far side of the buck. I wanted to see what it looked like, so I hunted it up with my metal detector. Lee

I have never had good success with SST/shockwaves but you gun will likely come with some shockwaves.Shoot em and see how they do. My friends omega loved them and he never moved on. I've had good luck with sabotloaders suggested load (the speer gold dot) but my omega definetly perfers the 300gr variety. XTP's load and shoot pretty much the same but I like all of the terminal performance buzz that I hear about the speer bullets. The 245 gr barnes spitfire is still the best grouper for me.But the price makes me use it for whitetail only; it doesn't fit my weekend range session budget.I also recommend avoiding powerbelts. My buddy swears by them but I feel they 1) cost too much, 2) fragment too much (he never finds a exit wound and just shards of lead all over the chest cavity).

230-250 gr 45-cal XTP with black Harvester sabot using 80-90 gr of powder is all you need to 125 yards or-so.

I have owned two Omega's. One was the best shooting ML I ever had. The second was also a great shooter. The problem was getting a bullet down the bore. Neither rifle would take a second load. The best shooter of the two had trouble even getting the first load down the barrel. I got rid of both of them. Just too much trouble trying to load the rifle. Tom.

Ok, I had to go vist the new Cabelas that was opened up here. Walked out with a TC Omega ,camo, stainless steel barrel. Nikon Pro Staff scope, one piece base and rings and other goodies. Ended up buying the TC 300 gr XTP's. I do alot of hunting in dense woods, so I thought a heavy ,hard hitting bullet would do the job. Plus the price is right to! If I have any problems I might try the SST bullets.

Dont forget that their are a number of different thickness of sabots, the choice of the right sabot is as important or even more so than the right bullet, with the right sabot[my Omega like MMP-HPH 24 my Triumph likes Crush Ribs] you can adjust your powder load and get good accuracy with a number of bullet quite often, though sometimes they like different powders [Omega likes RS the Triump likes 777-FF but it could have been the other way around just as easy]. The SST's will not work for you unless you switch out sabots or if you buy the new SST's with what Hornady is calling a "low drag" sabot - which is nothing more than a MMP HPH-3p-EZ load sabot.

There are lot of people out there shooting the XTP's and loving them - but I would betthe farm you would like the Speer 300 grain Gold Dots better...

check out pages 6 & 7 - well all of them would be best...

One thing you will need to know your bore on that new Omega is going to be really tight... about the only sabots you will get down are:
1. MMP HPH-24 .451/.452- 50 cal (and they may be tight until you shoot a 100 rounds or so out of the barrel)
2. MMP HPH-3p-Ez load .451/.452 - 50 cal - these should load really even on the new barrel.
3. Harvester regular sabots (either long petal or short petal) this are equivelent to the MMP-HPH-24
4. Harvester "crush rib" might even be easier than the 3p's ( but for me the 3p's hold more pressure...

Two other thought the TC easy glide (yellow) sabot and the Hornady (low drag) red sabots are MMP-3p in a different color.
