Default Blowback issues

I have had a Winchester Apex for a little over a year now.

It's a decent shooting rifle, I'm just getting a little annoyed by all the blowback I get. I've tried switching primers but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

Cleaning the barrel is a breeze with this gun but the blowback behind the breech is what takes me a lot of time. I started wondering what things must look like behind my firing pin. Is this something I dare take apart to clean? Or is it one of those things that might be hard to get back together right?

I am starting to wonderif the 25 ACP conversion might be worthwhile. Has anyone here tried this with the Apex?

I guess the extra time cleaning up is no big deal I'm just a bit concerned about all that blowback messing things up in the firing pin area.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I've been wondering the same thing for my son's Apex. I almost took it apart after we got back from hunting the other day (it had rained and I wanted to clean and dry everything)but decided not too until I had time to spend on it, just in case. I may just send it to BPI and have a trigger job done on it, they would clean it out at that time (I hope) and save me the hassle. But eventually it will have to be cleaned and lubed anyway so I may go ahead and crack it open.

Has anyone out there with an Apex or Kodiak been into the trigger assembly yet and if so what was it like?

I do not have an Apex but I do shoot the Omega and I will tell you from the get-go the 25ACP is the way to go - while it is or seems expensive if you shoot a lot like I do it is worth every penney. It is far cleaner. and that is why i use it - has nothing to do with accuracy or ease of handling the 25acp cartridge vs the 209 - they make cappers to handle the 209. The 25acp is cleaner all the way around.

I recently converted my Mustang to 25 ACP and agree with Sabotloader. Can't say for sure it has increased accuracy, but all indications are that it has eliminated my "one out of five shot flyers". It's way, way, way cleaner. I'll never go back to 209s.

It is SS with a camo synthetic stock and in excellent condition. Make me an offer.

If'n you sell it - what are you looking at getting?

There certainly are some new good guns out there. I am really intriqued with the Knight KRB but I still would not give up my Omega or White - then there are my Remingtons, which I really like.

Seriously I just don't know if I'd have time to get use to another gun before hunting season. If I sold this gun to someone I think I'd buy a knight, either the KRB or an extreme.
