I think you are really gig to like them... you are actually shooting a rifle bullet instead of pistol bullets...
They sure work for me....

45-70 Caliber 300 Gr. Partition Protected Point 50ct.(50 count)
Specifications:
Ballistics
B.C. 0.199
S.D. 0.204
OAL: 0.830"
45 Caliber 300 Gr. Partition-HG Protected Point 50ct.(50 count)
Specifications:
Ballistics
B.C. 0.199
S.D. 0.211
OAL: 0.840"
Looks like the regular hand gun is the longer and to get the .458 they shorten the bullet and make it thicker... Probably - a slightly thicker copper jacket to stand up the the possible added velocity of the 45-70, especially in a modern smokeless 45-70 or maybe even your savage...

I set them side by each and I couldn't tell the difference in height by eye. I then placed a steel rule beside them and the measured the same height.??? You can definately see the difference in diameter though.

They had the best penetration of any bullet, but of course little expansion. Chap Gleason

The more I shoot my OMEGA the more I like two particular traits it has. It seems that every time I take my first 2 shots, they are either touching or very close to one another. And secondly those first two shots hit at my point of aim every time.
So I have come to a conclusion. 5 shot groups are to be banned for life for shooting muzzleloaders. Think about it. If we get two shots we are lucky. As a muzzleloading hunter, more often than not a second shot will not be required in any case.
So here is my target for today. Now remember shots 3-5 don't count in the group size.
This is with the 45-70 .458 Nosler Partitions and the Orange MMP Sabot. Sabot condition was odd. 1-no petals, 1-one petal, 1-two petal, 1-three petal and 1-four petal. The first 2 shots I found the 3 petal and the no petal base. I also found a few bullets, one of which was laying next to my targe box [:-]. It is the one on the left. I think it hit a rock and bounced back????

Here's a target I shot last May with .458 300 grain Remington SJHP's, MMP orange sabots, and 90 grains Pyrodex. It's pretty close tothe original 45-70 load.

There's only four holes there. lol

That's some nice shooting Semisane.
I'm really concerned with having enough oomph to do a moose in. That is why I've loaded the way I am. I would go higher but I'm not too keen on dislocated shoulders. At 110 gr T7 I am confident any mooseout to 200 yds is in a world of hurt.
With any luck, I'll have some success pictures to show y'all. Fingers crossed. The countdown is on. 6 Oct cannot come soon enough!!

HuntAway,I have a suggestion for you,its some thing I do when I am getting ready for hunting.
The next time you shoot after the second shot clean the gun real good with akl. and ww cleaner and leave it open to air so the inside of the barrel can cool in the shade[it cracks me up when I watch some one shoot with the sun heating one side of the barrel], walk down to the target and mark the number of your shots and where they hit make sure you take enough time for the gun to cool back to the temp. it started out at[to duplicate hunting conditions] then see where that next shot would go if you were in hunting conditions.
