Hi Guys, went out today and shot my new 44 cal revolver. Am not doing something right. Am using #10 caps, when I put them on and try to fire, the first time the hammer strikes, they do nothing, then second time around they fire perfectly. The book says nothing about using #10 or #11 caps and have yet to callPietta, Thought I'd try the one's with experience first
Do I need to seat them more? Or are they the wrong size caps?
They were CCI's by the way. Thanks for the help.

I am speaking from old experiance and not with that pistol... most pistols do take a #10 and it sounds like you did not have the cap all the way down on the nipple.... and in the same breath it is possible that they might be using the more popular #11 which is a larger cap... you might still need to call them - to be sure...

I would get some #11 caps and try them on the nipples with the chambers unloaded. If a couple cylinders full (12 caps) fire OK then try loading one chamber and capping with a #11, then firing it. If the caps blows off the nipple it may be too large, or the charge may be too heavy. If it stays intact (or at least doesn't blow completely off) then you cantry a full cylinder.
Changing brands of caps is also a good possibility for solving the problem.

My F. L. Lpietta from Cabela's uses a #10 cap and nipple set up. You can get #11 nipples and install them in the revolver if you so wish. Maybe on the new models this has already been done, or one that was owned by someone else, the caps might have been changed over. Simply try some of the #11 caps and see if they fit better. Also, check the nipples for burrs or ruff edges, and look at the nose of the hammer for anything out of the ordinary. What's happening is the first strike is seating and the second is causing the ignition. In fact when you cock the revolver, are the caps hanging up on the frame of the revolver? If they are they are not seated deep enough on to the nipple.
