1:66 + conical? .54 ?

The only "conical" I ever really had any luck with in the slow twist barrels are Buffalo Ball-ets. They did the best. While they are only slightly bigger then a roundball, they do not require a patch so are easier to load. I have tried a lot of different ones in the slow twist, but always drift back to the simple roundball for accuracy. Besides, the roundball does all I need it to do.

I used to shoot a 450 grain flat based conical out is a great plains 54 caliber. Max powder load would yield 2.5" at a 100yds, but it was bruttle to the shoulder. I would rather shoot my 69 caliber that that again.

What kind of accuracy were you getting @ 100 yards?

When I get any rifle with a slow twist, I basically purchase it knowing that it will be a roundball rifle...

Normally I will shoot between a 3-4" group with open sights and ball-ets.
Three to four-inch groups is mighty fine!
