Default a new hornady conical for slow twist

Any of you all tried these yet. . . .If I can get these in a .54 I might have to take a look.

Hornady PA Conical Bullets
New from Hornady. A 240 grain conical bullet designed for use in 1:66 (slow) twist barrels. Now legal in PA flintlock season. A great alternative to patched round balls. Prelubed, ready to load. 50 bullets per box.

The PA conical is a lot like the Buffalo Bullet Ball-et. Which by the way shoots well in slow twist rifles. I like them in my .54 calibers. As for a sabot combination in a slow twist, I never heard of that. Do not under estimate a roundball as a hunting projectile. They have takes a lot of game. They are cheap to shoot. And very accurate.

like always, I agree with cayugad. But I think the PA conicals only come in .50 cal. And I believe they came out the same time as T/C's PA Hunter flintlock. Here in PA there is still a primative only season where you must use a flintock ignition and up until a few years ago could only use a round ball. When they started to allow the use of conicals,a lot of rifles in use were .50 cal with a slow twist and this PA conical worked well in place of the patch and ball.

A .452 Hornady xtp 250 grainerand a short black MMP sabot is a very accurate load for my 1/66 twist TC PA Hunter rifle and carbine. The sabot seals the bore better than the PA conical does. Probably has a higher BC. so it also holds up power wise at 100 yard deer as well. Try em!

I still prefer the roundballs but it's nice to know some other choices will work well.

I was wondering about the xtp's with my GPR. What was your powder charge?
