Making your own sabots

You can not buy just the projectile you will end with sabots also. If you get the 250 SW with Black Sabots they will be MMP's HPH-24's or if you get the ones with yellow sabots they will again be MMP's but they will be the "super glide" which is the thin sabot that will fit most tight bores real well.
If I wanted to shoot 250 gr. SW, where is the best place to buy bullets and the crush rib sabots? And what size for .50 cal? Thanks in advance.

you can order online. I would try the sabots the come with the SWfirst and see if they work for you.Buy 50 of the Crush rib with your order since they are only $5 for 50.

Thanks, I've tried powerbelts and the sw and to be honest, they both shoot about the same. I still need to tweak the charge to get it just right but money wise it looks like buying in bulk is the way to go.

What gun are shooting? from that i might be able to tell you which sabot would work well with that gun...
SST/SW are the same bullet with different colored polymere tips.
SST's come with the thicker MMP HPH-12 sabot
SW's come with the thinner MMP HPH-24 sabot or the thinnest Yellow sabot. If that yellow sabot does not go down your bore, then there is not much that will.
MMP also makes a HPH-3p EZ load that they can sell to the public that is much like the yellow sabot....

OK, I can not give you first hand information, I do not shoot a Optima but from everything I have read it does have a very tight bore.
Have you already tried Shockwaves with the supplied sabots? I should also qualify that with have you tried new SW's because some of the older SW's came with the HPH-12 sabot (the thicker sabot). I guess I really should ask what sabots have you tried? Did any of them work for you.
What 45 caliber bullets do you have on hand right now? If you have some and want to try a sabot that I really believe will work call MMP and order a package of HPH-3p-EZ load sabots... they are expensive in a single pack but remember the price includes shipping. Actually when you get Connie on the phone ask her what sabot is working with the Optima? More than likely she has it recorded.

The SW I tried were the new superglides and they loaded a little tigher than the powerbelts, but those load pretty easy. I have not bought any bullets yet, but Im curious to see what would work. Thanks alot for the info, this is my first go round with a M/L.

Or just save yourself the trouble of a ML barrel and just buy the 45-70 barrel when it comes out
